I knew that would work. A few general questions for everyone who would like to respond. There are a lot of you very experienced collectors with some AMAZING Helmets and displays. What are some of the ways you protect them. Like security, extra insurance, fire that sort of thing. Insurance is a must and the money nice, but I could not imagin Helmets being stolen after all the hard work and time it takes to collect them. (not to mention sentimental value) Also, I just wanted to confirm that, is it a definate NO, to put leather oil on straps and liners?? some are so dry, just looking could crack them. Thanks to all!!

KP,
If this is the same fellow who sets up and advertises at the SOS and MAX shows he unfortunately, does not insure Canadian (foreign) collections. Apparantly there was some sort of change to the laws which now preclude him from selling this insurance to other than US nationals. It's a shame because I have heard nothing but good news about this company.

CIA is amazing. I have filed two claims, one for theft and one for damage and in both cases hassel free and excellent service. Made an otherwise painful incident bearable. If you are Canadian and an existing customer you can still remain insured with them. If you are an American collector and you do not have insurance you should seek them out, cheers, Ryan S

Thats too bad about that insurance company. It looked like a good plan. Any other suggestions?

For you Canadian boys, you can really just go to your local Property/Casualty insurance agent and ask them for an "Inland Marine" policy to cover whatever item(s) you might have at full RPC or Replacement Cost.
Or, you can have the items added to your Home Owners insurance policy on what's called a "Personal Property Floater". Without the "PP. Floater", your Home Owners Policy will only cover "Art/Collectibles" for up to a minimal amount. Not enough to make any true collector happy. Maybe $3,000. Tops. Unfortunately, I hold a 220 Insurance Lic. in the State of Florida. I'm sure that there wont be too much difference between companies in the US and companies in Canada. What a boring job that was (insurance)! An occupation that ultimately drove me in the direction of realizing my dream of flying ATP (Airline Transport). Just a few more moths now (24).

I use CIA (saves me a lot of money on postal insurance), a burglar alarm and high shelves and a locked door to keep small people and four-legged animals away. Cheers, Erich

I'd be more concerned about a Fire than a break in. I'm sure that many Criminals recognize that it is not in their best interests to break in to a Military Collectors house ,especially when he's home. ..it's a lot safer for them to take on a "Beanie Baby" or "Barbie" Collector .... less things that go "Bang"

Mike, One must be careful of the "Beanie Baby" folks, I know a couple with what appear to be a Bi-Polar condition, and they are well armed to boot. But CIA appears to be the best ticket to insurance. Kris
