I collect tagged pieces or try to, thanks to Mike Hansen who most of you dont remember I'm sure. I have seen the new made smf tags that Johnson had offered. but never bought one. I have seen these RZM lists here on the net that most guys paste on sites with no real respect to spellings or errors. I have seen The SMF firm spelling as Stocker and also Stoecker with the umlats over the "O" Since much of this information is now old news. I wonder if any of the older collectors here have the final word on the Carl Stocker firm? I will offer this also. In have seen several tags from many makers. But never one such as this. I do not know of a period smf tag as to which the newer produce ones (that the dealers were selling)may have been copied from. I am far from an expert but that damn Mike Hansen did this to me and I cant stop. This came in a grouping of tags purchased in December. Also another tag I have never seen but am researching now. NO DR. MIKE, IT WAS NOT A BOKER TAG sorry to say, that one is still on the loose. I welcome thoughts, ideas,a wild guess, and no its not for sale so please dont even ask. I know these type of threads dont get many hits but I hope to generate a bit of thoughtful discussion on this one! Vintagetimenow, I look forward to you thoughts. Fisher lists a Carl Stocker & Co. Est. 1930-No TM shown--no edged weapons known --and the EST date of 1930 is the same as on your tag. The "signal" symbol does not seem to be SMF but I have seen it written out on WWII and pre WWII Hunting Horns. I think SMF is older than 1930 so probably the Carl Stocker firm is where this tag came from, not SMF. Perhaps they made horns and other musical instruments.

Hey Houston, Yes I have not found anything by Stocker. I have seen here on the internet that the RZM lists all(NOT ALL READ SORRY!) the sites have list it as smf and carl stocker on the same line. I have never seen a carl stocker knife. Maybe Bill Warda can ring in on this also since you mention hunting horns. Hey bill if your a readin' i'm still alive!!! The tag has the "signal" arm and torch so yes I dont think its related to SMF I would expect to see the seated king if anything. I have a commercial kinfe from SMF from 1937. A walther(Zella-Mehlis) plant anniversary for 50 years. I could see something of that nature being diffrent. Here is just one link that has stocker and smf listed in the same line. Maybe a single mistake was copied over the years?? I welcome any and all input here. I'll list some links below. I'm not lookin' to P*I*S*S* any one off by posting links as being correct or wrong. thanks again Houston! http://kurskmilitaria.com/classic12_000025.htmthat one lists it as stoecker http://www.dienstdolch.de/die-hersteller.html?Itemid=41 this one list it as stocker I dont know how to place umlats(sp?) over the O, and I dont need to know how to I'll edit here( yes I know the rzm codes and that smf is 7 19)

Paul,
Here's a question, how do you use the usual ALT method to use umlauts on a laptop that doesn't have the number pad? Thanks for posting the link though.

Billy: In Microsoft Word you can make umlauts by pressing and holding down (all at the same time) CTRL, Shift, and : Then release all three keys and press the letter that you want w/ umlauts.
This is only for Word, I don't know how to do it on other softward (such as that used for this site). But you can write in Word then cut and paste it here:

Interestingly, there is no such "E" or "e" -with dots- variant in real german script . Regards,
