I have just carried out a search on this forum on attributable daggers. The search came up with just three topics (admiittedly just using the word attributable), and these didn't have much substance about them. My observation is that attributable daggers do seem rare - I can't remember the last time I saw one come up for sale other than the Schlotter M36 on Richard Millers website quite a few months ago now. Is there an added premium on their value? I would imagine there should be quite "good" premium really owing to the seeming rarity. In fact when did you last see for sale a dagger belonging to just a lowly Untersturmfuhrer. Just a thought. S.

By "attributable," do you mean attributed to the presenter, the recipient, or both (dedicated blades)? Also, does the word apply to daggers with SS numbers attributable to a specific SS member. Not trying top be "snarfy," just seeking clarification.

I own what is believed to be the only one attributed to a DKiG combat recipient. It is shown on pages 70 and 71 of Tom Whittmann's SS book. The equivalent of a full colonel, Hans Bunning was Commander of the 5th SS Artillery Regiment WIKING and won his award during the retreat from the Russian front. His exploits were well described in the book "Hell's Gate" by Doug Nash. His DKiG was awarded to him by Generalmajor Herbert Gille, the most decorated Waffen SS officer of the war. Gille was Commander of the WIKING Division at the time and a friend of Bunning's, having previously served in Bunning's position with the Artillery. It is also a full SS Rohm. Does it have a premium on it? It did when I got it and will when I sell it (if I ever do, which is not likely soon). Mark

I developed a research service of officer's SS numbers in the late 1970s and began researching numbers in the mid-1970s after I found five SS M33 Daggers with numbers for my own collection. Some of the things I have learned over the years is that the number of digits in the number can fairly well indicate your chances of the number belonging to an officer. Four digit numbers will hit about 1 in 4 times, five digit numbers will hit about 1 in 10 times and six digit numbers will hit about 1 in 25 times. Unless you have a name or futher information about a non-officer number, the information is probably lost to time as I know of no source for enlisted man's information to date. Just my experiences, Ron Weinand Weinand Militaria

Grumpy, All those really! As I and others have observed - any "form" of attributable daggers very seldom come up for sale, even the lower ranking officers ones. S.

I have a Full Rohm SS that has an officer's serial number and it has been attributed to Obersturmfuhrer Gerhard Feldmann. I have received over 40 pages of research on this officer from R.McDivitt and am in the process of identifying his career and his awards.
I did not pay a premium for the serial number, but, boy, did I ever for the Full Rohm.
If anyone runs across any reference to this officer or anything attributed to him, I would appreciate hearing from you.
John

All the SS Daggers that I have had that were attributed to an SS Officer never made it to my list. They sold, at a premium, before I could list them, either by word of mouth or at the first show I took them to in advance of any listing. I think this is the kind of dagger that most dealers have a waiting list for when available. JMO, Ron Weinand Weinand Militaria

Pics of it do more than blah blah blah!!!!
Attributable SS daggers need no advertisment!
Never see them offered! Not counting the cobbled up ones!

I posted a "Pack" in an M36 scabbard here several years ago. I believe it was recently "brought to the top." The presentation was from Georg Altner. No indication as to who the recipient was.
