That's a long time to be in the dirt and still they don't look all that bad.Every decal looks intact. Cool

The helmet in front center in the second pic still has a rocker clip from the cover attached to its rim! Eek

They are not cheap. Double decals, basically all there, unit and combat attributed.

Depending on depth and ground conditions whether sandy, rocky, clay, items can come up surprisingly pretty good..

I remeber my neighbour telling me about digging holes and burying all the German equipement after they surrendered in the desert, just think what condition that stuff would be in and I have never heard of any finds coming out of that area of conflict.

Sorry that I jumped to your conversation.
But I know details of this story as I live not far from Demajsnk and know this diiger personality good. The helmets really found in a village Gorschkowtzi. Here is a photo from Vopersal Wolgang book of Totenkopf.
Group of Max Simon really located in 1941-1942
in this places.
I don't look how the helmets found but I saw them, when digger came back from digging.
I also digg in that place later. But with no serious sucsess.

As for prices. this five helmets on images is not available. They are from personal collection of my friend.

But two helmets still available.
I listed them on my own web site
www.ww2.relicsshop.com/
Items WSS 088
WSS 089.

what else I want add to my story,
I cann't say this helmets in a best condition.
I mean helmets on images.
Best condition helmets looks like not ground dugg. as rule they found in a deep, very deep bunkers, in a clay ground. or deep bomb creators. from clay, mud ground. which always
full of water and mud.

Sand ground is not good for condition.

what else I want to add to story about 20 helmets.
they all found in one bunker. all together.
On now days it's a field, and hard to vsisiable
bukers or tranchers, just metal rod and hard work can bring result.

as i said I digg on this field, but I didn't find anything good. Sucsses is like dodge.
Nobody knows result. You can spend five minuts and find ss helmet or you can spens whole day with no any result.

If some one wants to know more about digging.
Contact with me. I'll show you russia, teach digging and you'll soend a lot of fun time.
We are not enemy other world any more.
Welcome to Russia.

Also I'd like to show images of this field on nowdays. We have snowing days rigth now.

Great snowy images! The 'what lies beneath?' frame of mind really stirs the imagination. Were I to live in a place where such history took place, I would find it hard to resist the temptation to be out there with a shovel digging every day. But, as you say, I bet it is tiring and disappointing on many occasions.

Hello everybody . All 5 helmets in my collection now .
I'm sorry but no one for sell at the moment .
There are very interesting helmets.I think two helmets most interesting than others. First is black with field overpaiting and second is a winter cammo .
The black one still has a clip and remnants of the spring holding because of stoned sand . Also it has a traces of cover material on the surface .
And it has even owner initials Durk... as i think more easy to find information about ss-man than other german soldier - so could somebody help me identificate this SS man please ?! it was an early period of the war- september 41-mid 42 Probably he was wounded or KIA .
Regards, Sergey

Very Interesting thread. Thanks for sharing this with the community, it is not everyday that we get a breadth of fresh air - with helmets directly from the old Eastern front.

If you have anymore pictures or details about the area where they were found or of the other 4 helmets - please post them.

Cheers,

Asper

The last pix with the letters inside the rim looks like it may be some ones name. If only these helmets could talk.

I know about people who would like to se the battleship Bismarck rescue and put as a museum, but other people are against it, due to the fact that the Bismarck is war grave. My question is when people dig for helmets do they find human remainds? If yes, what happend to them? are they buried back with honors in a military war yard?

I think it can be scary to go and dig in a batlefield knowing that there can be still dead people buried there. It must be a lot of people against it (digging in batlefields), I suppose. what can you tell me about it?

Regards

Fernando

I was wondering the same thing. The web site had a lot of helmets with savage damage, some looked like it would decapitate someone. Were these men buried with out their helmets?
