Hi Bob, I usually ascociate the green visor underside with Luftwaffe, but this visor looks good in every way, to me. With regard to the two side vent breather holes, did this start with a certain model year, or was it just a style that varied from maker to maker? I've held both...

Looking at the inside of both shown visor caps, the pastic /linen cloth liners --and the first cap having the 2 side gromets , I would say both are high grade NCO visor caps . The first shown cap has been " up-grade " with an nice deep body Officer's type eagle . GREAT looking visor cap in almost mint condition . Congrats , Bernd .

Yep, I agree that vents like this are perfectly OK on police Schirmmützen. I see them on both early and late caps and in this form or the larger screened vent form. This looks like a very nice dated cap and my bet would be it was for a Meister.
Very nice Bob.

Hi all, I agree that the two breather gromets are "okay". My only reason for bringing them up, was a question of weather they were introduced on a certain model year, or if it was just a style variant. In Georges post, that he's seen them on both early and later visors, answers that question...Thanks. Here is a Schupo officer's schirmütz of mine, by Peter Kupper, with the two large screened gromets. They look like the same breather gromets used on the tschako...(perhaps smaller)...

Gendarmerie visor with officer grade chinstrap and the thicker insignia associated as private purchase/officer grade. Maker is Otto Doss, Planik, and dated 1940. The police insignia is superbly detailed, extra thick, private purchased variety that is associated with officer grades. The ****ade is also the extra thick variety, twice as thick as normal. The visor is in excellent condition in and out; there is only one nip in the brown band.
Some might refer to this as an upgrade, although the thicker ****ade associated with officer ranks appears to have been there since the beginning (see picture of the prongs). I’ve not looked at the eagle/wreath attachment pins since the liner is brittle and I don’t want to cause it damage, which lends me to think no one else has been foolish enough to mess with it. Besides, I found a neatly folded piece of what appears to be a page of the Die Deutsche Polizei or like publication under the sweatband in the reverse when I gently peaked under it. The article just happened to have a picture with the “Gendarmerie” in the caption.
That is the original text.
I happen to agree with the seller and he is well liked by our hobby.

Great looking visor! Think green and brown are the two primary colors found on the underside of police visors. Seen several of each. Speaking of ventilation and dates, I have a Gend. visor that came with a decorated Meister d. Gend. uniform with the same type vent holes and it appears to be dated 1941 on the reverse of the sweatband. It happens to have the thinner insignia and over all is less in quality than the example above. I wonder if there was a date or specific reason associated with the screen type vents on visors like Tshakos?

Hi Dave, My NCO Meister is also wearing officer cords. Would this have been acceptable?

Yes, the Meister wearing officer chin cords is frequently evidenced by period photos. i'll try to find one here shortly.
