Hello friends, as you know I was looking for a LW dagger for quite a while and I got now finally lucky. The grandfarther of a friend died and they had a dagger which they wanted to give into good hands. So I knew it was an original and who had it and came from and that all for about $500. It came with a portopee and the hanger!!! Overall it is in good condition. It has a white grip which has a lightscratch and the wire seems to be corroted. The blade is in perfect condition with pin point tip and no spots. The stamp is from Spitzer C.Gustav. The leather is in place and the eagle intact. The hanger has some wear, so has the portopee. It has some dirt on it and some oxidation on scabbart ( all screws in place). I would like to know if I made a good catch on it, if this is a comon dagger manufacturer and how to clear it so it looks better. Thanks to all of you !! Dirk happy owner of his first Lw dagger!

So here you see it. I will get better pictures on the weekend! One more question: The handle is white, I know it came in plastic and in ebony. How can I find that out? Dirk

Nice Vet "full rig" 2nd Luftwaffe dagger you picked up there Dirk. Congrats! Gustav Spitzer is a common maker but a desirable maker logo. -serge-

From what I can see you made a great catch, and at a very decent price. There's nothing like an unmessed with piece from a Vet's family.
As with any antiquity, the patina counts for a lot. Be careful not to "love it to death". There are a lot of opinions on how best to maintain daggers. Personally, I like to take care of the blade by wiping it with a soft cloth and leave the rest as is, unless there is a major corrosive present. This forum and WAF are good sources for information. Take your time and read through them. Also, Wittmans books on dress daggers are a great investment.
Conratulations on what looks like a very fine 2nd model Luft.

Congratulations! The portepee belongs over the ferrule above the crossguard at the base of the grip. Not below the scabbard throat as shown. Nice piece BTW.
Best Regards, Robert
