I understand that pilots and air crew obtained these little bells on the Isle of Capri while on R&R there during WWII and affixed them to their flight gear as good luck tokens. Does anyone have a sense of how common or scarce these bells may be and their collector value? Thanks, R.W.

falstaff2k,

You are correct and the USAAF guys would buy these souvenirs and typically attach them to the zipper clip on their A-2 jackets.

Attached photo is another variation and marked 1945. I also have another piece still on the original cardboard as offered but I don't have a photo at hand.

Regards,

John

Hi John...it would seem that these bells were produced in a variety of styles, sizes and in silver as well as brass. There must have been multiple makers also. I have seen modern repos for sale at around $40.00.....do you have any sense as to the value of WWII era bells? regards, R.W.

Hello falstaff2k,

I'm not for sure that they are repros but more so souvenirs. As said, they were offered to our GI's back when and more than likly after and perhaps still today.

I sold a duplicate for $50.00.
