Hi, I received this tunic in a trade. Does anyone sees any red flags on these pics? I've inspected in with a black light, but I realy can't see any traces of a previous Heer eagle or Heer collar tabs. Kind regards, Gerd V

Initial impression is that based on pics, it looks pretty good, are there indications of any award loops, you'd expect to see something on a 1st Lt's tunics I'd think

Looks like a nice, period stripped tunic. This would be a very nice tunic with the addition of some matching period insignia. choice, thanks for sharing, cheers, Ryan

Thats typical in what you see with the ss tunics . When they were taken prisoner after the war all insignia were striped. Looks to be ok . Did it ever have a cuff title? Joe Semen

Thanks for all the comments so far. No Joe, it never had a cufftitle.
Kind regards, Gerd V

Joe, don't think that this tunic saw ever a POW. These days it is impossible to judge a tunic from pictures 110% and a tunic needs a 110% inspection before spending any money on it. From the picture view it looks promising, but if it was ever a SS tunic can nobody proof for sure. Check out the seaming from the boards, inliner semaing, collar tab size etc.

On the WAA forum is a photo from the shoulder board (pic.#6) what is spot on that the boards are original.

Gerd,
I don't see anything alarming. I would check the sleeves, the stitching you show on the lining material doesn't look quite like a tailors stitching, their stitches are normally barely visible. I would check to see if they are stitched all the way around as they are on the upper and lower parts of the sleeve lining. If the stitching is different it would suggest that the boards may have been replaced. I agree 110% with Robert H., a hands on inspection is required no matter how something looks in digital photos. A couple of the photos do show a single stitch next to a shoulder board that is appears to be the same type thread used on the upper sleeve lining, that stitch should be hidden. Overall looks like a nice piece.

I'm obviously not an expert on any one area, but I do like the obviouls wear "shadow" of where the tunic when bottoned covers the darker area. This reinforces the notion that there never was a breast eagle on it, and is about the same color as the area where the sleeve eagle once was. As far as the stitching not showing---there is a thing called "field repair" and "field promotion"---didn't always have a tailor assigned to a field unit, so the degree of expertise rested on the individual or one of his buddies. I've seen some obvious lack of tailoring skills on tunics that were not messed with (non-SS). I like it, Gerd! Hmmmm....possible trading material, w/o the rest of insignia? Steve Z.
