Hi , I am the historian of an WW2 airfield at Sandhofen/Mannheim, Germany. For opening a museum I have purchest a Gorget. It came from a WW2 Vet who took it home as a suvenier. It is very nice and in excellent shape. Now I would like to have a second opinion on it, if it real or not, just in case... It is made of light metall, I guess alluminum The paint still glows in the dark The blach cloth is glued on with a brownish glue the one pin on the back has a stamp in there D.R.G.M. Can you experts look at it and tell me your opinion, p[lease? Thaks very much Dirk

Sorry, IMO that is a known reproduction. The 'hooks' are too big and roughly cut as compared to the originals. The middle one was designed to fit into a button hole to keep it from swinging. I doubt that one would fit.
But its good enough from the front, and many museums commonly use reproductions in displays.

I agree with Jerry, it's a reproduction. besides the shape of the prongs in the back the repros usually have the wreath around the swastika shaped wrong. It flairs out when looking from the side. here's an original to compare to.

See how the side of the wreath is vertical and not sloped.

Close up of the prongs. Much thinner and longer on the originals.

Than you very much for all your help. Even the man I bought it from thought it would be real. Is this a repro from the early days after the war or on from newer times?
Thanks from Germany Dirk
