Your pics are not that great , is the DD from the maker Quist ?

Looks like an M40 , extremely rare if it's a DD.

hi G24t,

the double decal m40 looks bad. the eagle looks like a repro.

the second linear looks like a repro too.

kind regards

I just looked at it again, three is a tear on the side of it, but its old with a waxy look to it, it might be the stuff i coated it with the soften the leather.

Based on the bad pics the helmet is most possibly a post war.

Didn't look up the shell maker yet ?

Rule No. 1...NEVER remove the liner from the helmet. (Anad as long as we are at it - do not treat the leather either). Just destroys the value...and yes, I agree the liner appears to be a repro.

Yikes, I just removed about four liners and it hadr to get the littel washers on the prons. Glad to know about the helmets, helmets are a sideline, firearms are my main collection, thanks for the imput.

looks like they were "digging for decals"...

maybe they were done that way, but when the shyte hits the fan enough for a soldier to to have make his head look like what he is standing on, its best to leave them covered up.

well so be it. If its a fake a lot of us were fooled around here. I am not going to ask why, I made that mistake before and got a pointed e-mail about it. How dare I question the opinion.

The DD M40 is a repo .Taking a helmet appart is akin to swapping the parts on a collection of K98 rifles .Rob

I have a large collection of german k98's and I know what you mean, This is the way I bought the helmet many years ago, its my loss. My k98's are completly correct, Like I stated earlier, my main collection is firearms.

I have 5 98k's myself and I must say that most of them are non-matching but all are excellent shooters. My most prized one is an early issue with an S code and the Weimar eagle waffenamt. It also lacks the grooves on the front sight used to mount a cover. Back to the helmet, Rob is probably picking up on something that my old eyes can't make out other than the liner. I think once you get the hang of taking good close-up's in natural light you will be able to get more opinions on your items. I like a lot of what you have posted, but like me you have picked up a few duds along the way. I have learned not to take a critique personally, but if I disagree with the poster, I may send him a PM to get his reasons off of the forum. Many people do not want to air their reasons in order not to help the fakers improve their craft. In the end only so much can be determined by a photo. You, on the other hand, have the item in hand and can see, feel and smell it. There is a wealth of information in this forum and in the past it was a good bit more active. Hopefully it will pick up again in future.
Cheers,
Mike

I am not experienced in helmets like the rest of the folks in the forum. My expertise is firearms. I have several daggers, helmets and flags, more than some, less than others. Its established the helmet has been messed with, best is to just learn from others. Thanks for your reply.
