I am torn. I have this cut off top of a true German lance. And I have one of those German lances made for Argentina. And I also know somebody who has a hacksaw and it is VERY good in welding and metal works. What is your opinion? Shall I take my Argentine lance cut off the top and have this German top reattached?

Herr Wolf,
I'd say no too ... never do anything that can't be "undone."
I think it looks great as is.

I would not touch it, these lance tips are very hard to find, and you have a nice display already, why risk damagaing it!

OK, OK you confirmed what I was thinking. I am currently exploring some other avenues, as I do really want a German lance for display. Wish me luck. The historical integrety and context of my Prussian (?) lance top wil not be disturbed. It is marked R.R.17 1.131 1920. Can somebody shed some light on this? I know the 1920 stamp means it was carried over to the Weimar Republik, I was not aware of any Uhlanen being around that late, though. R.R. means probably Reiter Regiment. Please educate me any further if you can.
Thanks, Wolfgang

Cut off the Argentinian Lance, get a nice silver ring made up to receive the original Lance tip and attach it to the stub. Now with a nice friction fit (maybe line the ring with leather or felt) you can store your tip, and it will look like a full Lance with an embellished ring near the tip. You can glue a rare earth magnet on the end of the stub to ensure the Lance tip won't slip out and impale you. Completely reversible, except for the Arg. Lance.
Lance.

You don't need to cut the top off the Argentine lance. It is soldered and pinned on. Heat until solder is soft, drive pins out and pull lance tip off. German tip is same size and pins and fits the same way.

I contacted Sarco and they (Lucky me) had a lance shaft without tip and the pennant rings removed. About 1/4 of the top is slightly bent. No big deal as this piece will be cut off anyway. I will give this to a plumber freind of mine to have the shaft cut to length and a metal sleeve soldered inside. I will not permanently attach my original tip, just slide it on. It will display nicely, but it will not be a full restoration. This way I can keep my the original lance fragment as displayed in my opening post. And finding the scrap lance at Sarco, I can keep my argentian lance intact. It never hurts to have two of these.

A closer look. I will have the shaft cut to accomodate my original tip with part of the shaft.

Wolf,
I think you've made a good decision, that's one hellacious pennant! Thanks, and thanks for sharing.

R.R.17 1.131 1920 If the R's are in script and since it's on a lance it probably Reserve-Reiter-Regiment(Reserve Heavy Cavalry Regiment) I have a luger holster with similar markings.
