Thanks,Love the original paint, seen some m40 helmets on some of these sites that dont look the same but say original, was there a wide variety of paints used on these,or just a bunch of repainted fakes?

Very nice.
agreed, lose the draw string you can get original strings to match the liner. I like the ET m40 color and textures.

I'm going to ask a stupid question. This is a Vet find and you changed the draw string and that's ok with everybody. Why not change the liner and strap and upgrade the helmet from nice to mint condition. Just had to ask because I have seen people beat up on this site for even thinking of part switching.

You have a problem with replacing a sneaker string put on the helmet in the "1970's" and comparing that to completely replacing the liner with a new one?

That me try that again... I do not see a problem with replacing the string in the helmet. The string in the first picture is obvious a post war addition. I do not think you can compare competely removing an original liner and replacing it to "upgrade the helmet."

I didnt switch any original parts the original string was lost to time, so I see nothing wrong with removeing a post war added shoestring and putting a period string back on it.Comparing that to replacing the original liner or repaint etc. back to "mint" is ridiculous IMO.That tampering would be hard to undo!
