Hi Doug, I have a small collection of web frog and can tell you that the all green variety is very desirable. Mine has a steel stud, however. Haven't seen another in some time. You do find the green wedding used in various combinations with the tan web frogs and vise versa. Hope this helps. Tom

The leather versus fabric stud backing IMO seems to be fairly variable. That said, aluminum studs on tropical frogs are not common (in my experience). And most are steel as is the one on the all green frog to the bottom far left, and the three mixed (pouch/tie strap) examples posted. What (IMO) is even scarcer are the very early no tie strap variants. Like the example posted at the top left (not removed - it never had one). FP

Doug, I really havent been tracking current values of the tropical frogs. What I can share is that my all green example was acquired a long time ago from the brother of a deceased vet along with some other of his souvenirs. And was in fact my very first tropical frog that came with its matching/matching 1942 dated bayonet. FP

Thanks FP. I did a completed auction search on Eban and found http://cgi.ebay.com/WWII-WKC-G...?hash=item25584dc73e. A late WKC bayonet has to be worth $100 so the green frog is only worth $2 now. I think I'll just keep it. Thanks again. Doug

Will, I'm sorry to say that I don't have any other additional closeups of the two (Luftwaffe) blue frogs that I posted available at the moment. The first shot was from an old group photo shoot that I did at least five years ago.
What I do have is a closeup of a portion of one the Luftwaffe frog's tie straps. Showing an aluminum stud, with a few traces of blue paint, and the strap material showing some minor wear. Also note the whiteish or light colored stitching. If you see a (supposedly) "Luftwaffe" frog that is all the same color, including the stitching, pass on it. Some fakers are buying the lighter colored (like tan) standard tropical frogs and dying them blue to sell them for higher prices. Said frogs becoming permanently ruined and IMO (relatively) valueless as original period items. Regards, FP

Len, That's the one! While looking for an image of a postwar dyed one, I came across a closer image (with less than optimal lighting values) of the example with the steel tie strap stud which is on top. I have to correct myself in that the stitching around the hole for the frog stud on this example is blue (which I verified in hand). With the rest of the stitching being more or less whitish, with lighter colored fabric where it is more worn. I have not seen the lower frog in person. But from the web image, it very much looks like one of the postwar dyed ones appearing to have been vat dyed all one color, stitching and all. Which is the point I was trying to get across. Regards, FP
