I bought this off of the forums, and found this info: Stalag VIII-F (318) was a German prisoner of war camp set up to handle exclusively Soviet Red Army prisoners. It was located at the northern end of the huge Germany Army training area at Lamsdorf Silesia and just north of Stalag VIII-B. It was built in June 1941 and existed until the advancing Soviet forces liberated it 17 March 1945. The camp was renumbered Stalag 318 in 1943. Physical and sanitary conditions were terrible and of the estimated 300,000 Soviet prisoners who passed through this camp, about one third died of starvation, mistreatment and disease. The Germans did not apply the provisions of the Third Geneva Convention to Soviet prisoners because the Soviet Union was not a signatory. On October 11, 1944, after a five days train trip, about 5,000 imprisoned after the Warsaw Uprising Polish soldiers of the Armia Krajowa arrived in the STALAG 318, aka VIII F, aka Stammlager 344, from the assembly point at Ozarow. Several days later the German Army, Wehrmacht brought about 400 Armia Krajowa women soldiers. They were held in a compound adjacent to the men,s compound, but in a few days they were transported to a concentration camp in the north.
Anyone have more info or other examples? Thanks, John

that's a nice complete one John..
I used to be a huge tag collector. With the Stalag tags I tried to get one from each camp,,in 20 years of collecting them never could do it.. Sold off most of my POWs,,kept just the ones with really weird/unique fonts or 'infamous' camps like yours.. I also have St VIIIB the 'Hell Camp' for the allied RAF guys,, and St. 366 a camp for Russian POW were they were brutally treated then picked out the worst of the bunch for 'volunteer' units [press ganged]..
These POW tags have a LOT of history behind each one. they have only increased marginally in value with most well under $100... That IS a nice one you got there!

Here is mine.. Sorry for poor quick picture. "STALAG VIIIA" is poorly visible on it... Found with metal detector in Russian postwar camp, probably discarded by original owner.

POWs are usually zinc/potmetal type.. Every once in a while you'll run across a steel one. Best way to tell is with a magnet..

Great examples, thanks guys! Anyone know of any for sale...wouldn't mind adding a few, seeing that they are a lot cheaper than daggers!

your joking right Paul!? ,Steel POW tags are fine,,more scarce than a standard zinc for me..
These are often overlooked pieces. They have a lot of history to them and should appeal to the Axis as well as Allied collector!
