looks like an Army NCO or Officer's that has been tailored with black band stitched over the army green- I don't like it for that and a few other reasons

Sorry for the quality of the pictures but i dont have the cap in my hands at the moment the area you are talking about is the gray materal from the cap body or is it the stiffner that has broken through that you can see

It does look like there's remanants of a green band having been there. Go careful with this one.

Looks to be an original officers' quality cap from the pix -- and yeh maybe a converted Army. Don't know enuf to speculate.

But I wonder: how often were wartime Heer caps "SS'ized" by SS men who'd, say, lost their own cap and were unable to get an "official" one?

There's no way to really know, of course. And proven "converts" are less than desirable to own no matter whether switched in wartime or afterwards.

Still, considering I once owned a W-SS EM visor that had ARMY insignia, with no evidence
of TK or SS eagle ever being on it (and no sign of capband tampering) it's got me to wondering...
