Hi Folks,

I'm out of my field when it comes to SS caps. I've consulted several reference sources and have not found an exact variance match to the insignia on this cap. Could someone be kind enough to advise me in this regards? My apologies for the poor pictures - but it is all I have at this time.

Thanks,
Asper

Looks nice..!..all but the usual caveat that there are industrious and unscrupulous individuals who will make these caps "ground up" with real material and lining..and attach real insignia..so make sure the material is not the thick uniform or overcoat material often used in this process..the true overseas cap wool is thinner and lighter..if the overall wear of the insignia matches up with the cap..that's always a good sign..I know personally of several individuals who will make items to order...as said..with any thread..material provided.some are in the reenactor field...some not..they know how these caps should look.how they should be constructed..etc etc...just some thoughts.

Thanks so much for the kind advice; glad that the insignia appears trustworthy - and that the cap in general seems to match your expectations. I may consider purchasing it and then I will share better pictures with you folks. I have been given the option to return the cap if for any reason I'm not happy with it.

Thanks for the advice regarding the material Scott - I'll definitely keep a close eye on it.

Hi Asper, While the over all appearance of the cap seems OK, I'm troubled by the eagle(skull looks good) He has a 'big' eye. I prefer the longer 'squinting' eye. He also seems to have no shape to the body. I prefer to see a little 'coke bottle'. How about the 'schiffen' shape and the construction of the 'boat tail'(rear of the cap where the different panels come together? Can't be too careful with this SS stuff for the money ya need to part with. Hope it's a good one for ya. Wink

Mike - that style of eagle is an original type, quite often found on side caps in both enlisted and officers flatwire.
