Degens is right, it's a Spitzer variation maker mark. Looks etched, I've only seen them stamped. Nice fire bayonet

Degens,Billy, Thanks! This has got to be one mintiest fire bayonets I've ever seen, 99.99% paint with no age at all, and the rest is just as nice. Here is a pick of the whole piece. I picked it up from the vets stepson today, only thing missing is the bag and tag.

That is a true beauty. Not only a hard to find maker, at least for me, but the condition is amazing. It's obviously been worn and well cared for by it's owner and well looked after since the end of the war. How much did you say
Get thee behind me Satan,......... and push!

Thanks guys! Terry, there is not a date or mfg on the frog, just a spot where someone tried to put there name on it, looks german but it's faint. Here are some more pics before it heads of to it's new home, the condition is really mint, I do not believe this was ever worn and it actually came home in a bag but the bag was lost at some point, this is by far the best one I've ever seen. Enjoy.

Fritz,
Great looking piece, I don't see them mint like that very often. I have two questions for ya. Is the pommel magnetic? Is the scabbard blued or painted? Thanks

Hi Billy, The scabbord is painted and the hilt is non-magnetic. Thanks.

Fritz,
Thanks for getting back to me. I was curious about the pommel because I've never come across a Spitzer (or any with that type pommel) that have been magnetic despite the presumed period of manufacture. I've had a number of Lauterjung examples (Puma & Tiger), all exhibiting indicia of early production that show nonmagnetic pommels. The scabbard just looked like it might be anodized.
