Hello:

I am very new to the cloth side of the force. This is represented to me as a collar tab for SS 11 'Nordland'. I don't see it anywhere in the Angolia Cloth book and I see a very different sunwheel pattern collar tab in wear by 'Nordland'.

Can anyone tell me what this would be?

Thank you,

John

Ppg 90 of Uniforms, Org & History of the W-SS Vol 3 shows the open sunwheel (Sonnenrad) was normally worn on the collar patch (or SS runes). This is a _possible_ variant for Reg't Norge but there is no confirmation of this and no proof exists that the patch ever existed according to the book. There is a theory that the Danes wore the open sunwheel and the Norwegians wore the closed.

Manual of the Waffen SS also shows this pattern as possibly produced but unissued or alleged to have been issued for 33rd Waffen Kavallerie Division der SS (Ungarische Nr 3).

I would think this is more than likely a repro (or fantasy as no evidence exists of thier being used) just by researching alone.

Here is a pic of 11th SS soldier in action, wearing the open sunwheel.

On another note, what happened to the Flames??? Smile

Thank you.

The Flames burnt out (sorry), but you can't win when only the goaltender shows up for each game. Too bad, because I was looking forward to the Red Mile!

In the 1945 SS calender it's described as a "French" collar tab - it was probably never distributed.

Thank you all.

It's too bad, because it looks so GOOD.

But, I bought this from a reputable name, so I should be ok.

This is anyhow that looks for me from the front embroidery, some other dealers have other foreign so called Dachau tabs on their website where the embroidery look thicker. Anyhow the top photo is not the best one.

Careful. Everything I have read on that collar patch says post war to me. There was a firm in the USA that made them and the thread used was just a slightly different color thread otherwise everything is identical to the Dachau mfr collar tabs. By the piece not the reputation of the dealer.

Several Robert Lumsden books cover this as do others. So I would be careful.

Those collar tabs are all over the place.
Many top dealers have them ( or had them ) for sell.
Here's one being listed at the moment on Bill Shea's web site.
It looks very similar to the one being pictured by JohnZ. Confused

Are they good or bad ?

Did some research and these are known to be 100% fake.
Things they didn't know couple of years ago, just surfaced.
Our hobby is "evolutive" and some things that were known to be original yesterday, are sometimes known to be faked today. Wink

Where you did your researches Pat? Are these Deltas or not? What is proofen is that enough original Dachau produced foreign SS collar tabs are out and offered. The last shown tab is for me original. Just one info check also the foreign SS tabs from Bill S. or Peter W. or ... out. No doubts about them.

The closed sunwheel tab is fine, but i would love to hear the new evidance to the contrary. They have been around a long time and all conform to proper specifications.

Oh yes the Dachau depot foreign insignias are real for sure! Its another thing if they were issued widely into real use! There are so many vet finds of these insignias to make solid provenance! I got a few! And in the Dachau vet finds you also find doubtless originals like cuff titles, bevo skulls and eagles.

They are very nice tabs, and historical!

Whatch out for the delta repros though!
