Hello all,
I just received this 188/35 and would like your opinions. To me it all looks good and un-touched; but the grip-to-crossguard fit, while good, appears to have been crudely done. Almost as though the grip was somewhat too big so they took a file and really filed out the curves at the corners.
The below photo shows where the grip "triangles" are irregular, having been filed to fit the crossguards, and not smoothly curving to the crossguards. Hope that makes sense.
What do you think?
Harvey

Here's close-ups of where the corners were filed.

Scabbard paint. Plenty of crazing but poor photos; I feel sure the paint is period.

Close up of reverse grip "triangle". See where the curves change pitch as they near the crossguard?

Scabbard-to-lower crossguard fit. Good on reverse, not so good on obverse.
Also, the scabbard is a tight fit; smooth, but tight.

To answer your question, I have never seen an SS grip with that kind of tooling. I have seen SA grips that are similar. Every Carl Tillmanns I have seen is fitted the same way.

The grooves in the lower crossguard seem to have been hand-enhanced, just as Eickhorn did on theirs. This would be interesting to see in person.
Dave
PS - Tang nuts can be turned without leaving traces.

Thanks Skyline. It's interesting to see that the cut might be a particular style of finishing; not just compensation for an over-sized grip. Your SA grip seems to be cut almost identically.
Dave,
The grooves are hand-enhanced. I'll take your word on the tang nuts. I still believe, however, that this one is un-turned.
