If you like them the new GMT Ceramic is the next generation. The maxi case, the new ceramic bezel and the futuristic hairspring set this watch apart from other mechanical watches in terms of accuracy. Mine is operating at -2 seconds a month compared to the national atomic clock.

Ya know guys...I think that Rolex is the most over rated thing I guy can own at my age. I have one that is a beauty (a datejust) but if you follow the Rolex manual and have it cleaned every so often at $400 a pop, I can't see it. Speaking of "can't see it"...I am on my second Timex Indiglo watch in 7 years. They never failed (I lost the stem off the first one by accident) and it was only $50.00 to get a new watch rather than repair it. It glows in the dark if you push the stem to help you find a keyhole and you can read the dial. You can't say that about a Rolex when you get to be over 60. My Rolex sits unused, but cleaned, in the box. I have driven cars cheaper than that thing. I got mine as a gift while I was President of my company upon my retirement so it was free to me. I'd take the Timex any day over the Rolex to just do what a watch is supposed to do. That one shown is a good looker though...but I honestly could not read the dials without glasses! Mark

Why bother with a watch at all ? You're retired Besides, everything from your car to your computer has a clock built in. Dave

I have a Citizen solar powered titanium watch that I got about 8 years ago. About the only thing I ever do to it is change the setting due to time zone differences. Owning a Rolex as an everyday watch is as pracital to me as using a Ferrari as your car pool vehicle! Retired? Me too; but My arm would feel positively Neked without a watch!! Jim

Not in Arizona. The liquor stores open up at 10:00am on Sunday. That's why I go to church at 9:00am so I'm able to avoid the early rush!! Jim

The beginning from the movie Easy Rider was a big impression for me already as a kid, my last watch broke more then one year ago and is since this day in my drawer.

That was a pleasant memory! I remember Peter Fonda just took off his watch and tossed it. When I used to go to the Bahama's we did that when we docked our boat at Port Lucaya. No problem mon!

About the Rolex guys. It's like when people buy 4 wheel drives and they never go bush, just stay in the city going back and forth to the shops or their kids school. Plain stupid right. Well the Rolex is a highly engeneered piece of equipment for the sub mariner type, in fact it's the Rolls Royce of it's class, but it aint no dress watch and shouldn't be judged that way. I know as a saltwater fiend myself I sure wish i could afford one! ______________ R.R.

Fine mechanical watches are better appreciated in Europe and Asia. There was a time in America that fine watches were family heirlooms and passed down for generations. Here is a great site on these watches that invented or re-invented the modern watch. They will always be associated with people like Chuck Yaeger and movie characters like James Bond. Of course the modern Jimmy Bond has switched to Omega. http://www.rolex.com/

I found it interesting that the founder of Rolex was a Bavarian named Hans Wilsdorf who was orphaned at 12 and at age 24 decided to set up his watch making business. He came up with the name Rolex because he wanted it to be a short title which was easily remembered. Hans Wilsdorf passed away in 1960.
