Hi,
Saw this dagger today and wanted to know your opinions.
Seems like the fittings are not correct for Spitzer?
I would also welcome comments on the unusual grip.
Hangers are damaged, knot is in good condition.

I am no Spitzer Pro but this looks like a typical late dagger with generic fittings and what looks like a plaster filled grip(another late feature) Scabbard looks like a Pack product with the dome head double screws and could fit this late package just fine. I do believe Spitzer used generic fittings from mid period onward. Kevin.

Well it looks fine to me, The grip looks exactly like the handle on my Spitzer, and my grip has wood core.
Just my two cents.

Thanks for your comments guys.
Would you say that Spitzer is a rare maker for Army Daggers? Seems more common for Luft/SA?
I would be very grateful for some photos of your Spitzers - especially if they have a similar grip or generic crossguard.

Here are some pictures of my C. Gustav Spitzer Heer dagger, with hanger and port. This one came from a vets famly and I know it has not been messed with. Hope they hepl. And you asked for pictures here they are

Many thanks for the photos so far! I sent you a separate email with my address for more photos please. I put the deposit down on the dagger at the top of this thread and will collect it in '09. Will post more photos then. My original concern was that the dagger may be have been a post war parts  assembly but this seems to be more unlikely from the comments and photos posted. From what I can gather: -Spitzer was not a major supplier of Army Daggers and used fittings from other suppliers (like many others).  -The Spitzer Army Daggers I have found on the net (mostly) have early silvered brass fittings. -The 2 daggers in this thread looks like cousins!  Maybe the 2 were produced in the same batch? The combination of blade, later generic fittings, plaster over wood grip with the very unusual swirl pattern seem to give a good DNA match. Do you think that this grip ever had (or was intended to have) the uncommon double wire wrap?
