Can someone help me to identify this shirt? What does the gold piping denote?

Doug, that's a very nice looking party brownshirt. Although, I don't know which of the 4 party branches would have used brown collar piping. And taking it another step towards perhaps SA, the only reference to brown piping which I can find, is in late 38/early 39 that most districts standardized to a brown and aluminum twist collar piping. And in late 40/early 41, the collar piping was eliminated for all ranks. I'll have to check HJ and NSKK brownshirt references....Does the shirt have an RZM tag?

Johann,

Thanks for your reply. The shirt does not have an RZM tag in it. I appologize for the quality of the photography, but the piping is not brown. The piping is an oxidized gold. Could this be Gau level???

Gau is red piped, gold is Reich, although generally golden yellow and not metallic.

They are political buttons, but could have been switched on an SA shirt. An RZM tag on the inside of the pocket would have told you if it was originally SA or PO (Political).

Cheers,

Stephen

This style gold twisted piping was worn c. 1933-34 (first pattern Political Leader uniforms) by the following ranks:
