Hello:
I am new to the forums and collecting. I mostly collect bayonets and have a few daggers but I picked this sword up at a local auction but I am not sure if the scabbard and knot are correct for the blade? Also if anyone had an aprox value of the sword for insurance purposes that would be great.
Thanks Richard

Richard,
The scabbard is correct for your Miner sword. What color(s) are in the insert in the bottom of the knot?

The insert is black and the knot is a very wide oval and is a gold metalic.

Richard,
This gold knot is the one generally associated with the Miner sword. It has black and white stripes and insert. I would not discount your knot as being improper if it came with the sword though.

I was concerned about the scabbard as the only documentation I could find mentioned there is only one suspension ring and mine has two. I purchased this sword because of the engraving. Is there much of a demand for these swords?
Thanks in advance,
Richard

Nice sword - but yeah Miner gear can be tough to move - which is great if that is what you want to collect exclusively - every day would be like Christmas

Richard,
I believe these scabbards came in 1 & 2 ring varieties. Jochen, another GD member, posted this one previously. Tom Wittmann remarked to me once that Bergbau stuff (as well as Auto Corps stuff) was rare but the people who collect them are rarer still.

Thanks for the great info. I had thought that these might be rare but judging by the lack of interest at the auction and price I paid you have confirmed my suspicions about the sword. I really do like the engraving on this one just to bad the knot is in such bad shape.
