Hi Everyone.

Firstly I must say what a wonderful site this is. Easily the best way to keep in touch with collectors with common interests such as ours.

I would like to hear your thoughts on my SS Dagger pictured below. I would like an idea of it's value for insurance purposes also.

It believe it is an Original piece with the following markings:
RZM M7/91 RZM 1221/39SS. My research says it's maker was Carl Malsch-Spitzer, but I have no idea how rare this item is?

As you can see from the photos, it's very worn and sctrached in places on the Scabbard, but overall it is in great original condition.

The Rune button has browned a it, but the Eagl is quite bright.

It's leather hanger and clip bare the markings, RZM M5/8 and shows considerable ware on the leather parts.

I'd really appreciate any comments you may have . . . also any history that you may know of about it's maker?

Thanks,

Michael

My guess for what's worth would be between $1200-1500 due to it's condition. Hope this helps a bit.

That seems about right. US$ 1500 or a bit more would be my guess.

You might get a bit more for it because of your location. There are not that many loose ones and they are difficult to import.

If you go back and read posts in this forum, you will see that yours is a later production dagger. THe early ones had maker's trademarks and are worth more.

If you have any more questions, please post or send me an email: dave@germandaggers.com

I would say the price is about right $1500.00.It looks like the scabbard has been repainted also.

Thanks Guys,

I've owned this Dagger for some time and it's not for sael, but I thought it best to get some advice. It's extremely difficult to get these insured in Australia.

What's the scoop regarding importing these in Australia, and why is there a posibility they're worth more here?

G'day,

We have several Members from Australia who can probably add a lot to what I am about to say. To import a double edged weapon to Auz, you need a permit.

That being the case, plus the fact that not a lot of diggers were in combat areas where these daggers were usually 'acquired' means that you probably get an extra 10% or more for yours. There are not very many for sale (if any) plus if someone want to buy one from the US or Yurp, they have to get a permit, wait while Customs buggers about, etc.

Hi Guys
Here in New Zealand which could be the same as Aus,possibly, you just go to your local cop shop and get the arms officer to write a letter to the commissioner of police saying your an OK sort of chap. The commissioner then sends you a letter which you send to those buggers at customs after they send you a letter saying they are holding a prohibited item which will be destroyed if you don't get a letter of approval within a certain time frame.

Pain in the arse. Pays to have all the paper work done well in advance.

Cheers

When I moved to Australia in 1974, I had a brass barrel blunderbuss made in England in the late 1700's. Customs conficated it Big Grin.

I finally secured an interview with a senor Customs official in Sydney. He had the gun brought in, looked at it, handed it to me, and that was it.

Thanks for the opportunity to use this site gentlemen!
A question for Dave Hohaus. Do you know Dave if Importing SS or SA daggers to Australia (specifically NSW) is legal?
Personally I find their reasoning in these matters inscrutable. I once brought in a set of kitchen knives from Germany. I believe these are the most preferred weapons of assault in domestic disputes! Then not that long ago I had a Swiss Army pen knife confiscated!!!

Reg,

As far as I know, You have to have some sort of permit in NSW. Whether it is state or federal, I can't say.

Reggie you need to apply for a B709B permit from the NSW police and then submit that with a completed B710 form to the Australian Customs Service. If you need either form just email me.
