Hello.

Stepping out of the box is good sometimes and I did just that a week ago. A person I was chatting to about hobbies and life in general gave me the phone number of a guy who was selling some items he had collected years ago. I had hoped that some bayonets and a dagger were still to be viewed but when I called all he had were some books and badges.

He seemed genuine and was not asking mega money. So I visited and spent some good time with him. He had moved on to war gaming with scale models, that was a sight to see as he made most himself and had a huge double garage area laid out with a landscape for a Napoleonic campaign.

Any way I bought the book which was issued by the US war dept, it had been restricted and was given to units to help them understand the command structures of the Wehrmacht. a very large book with lots of classified info.

The following pictures are of 4 other items I liked the look of from a box of over 100. I have poked around and think I know what they are.

Here is my request. What in fact are they? Could they be genuine? Have they any value? As I may be swapping them for an edged item later this month. This is not my area of collecting. I have checked all with an industrial UV lamp that I use for work. None of the cloth items glowed or fluoresced.

Thank you.

PS if you want other pictures let me know?

Spock, any chance of getting a straight on pic of the front and back of the badges? What you have from left to right is a flag bearers patch, kuban shield, snipers patch(not sure what grade) and a black wound patch. Items one and three are good money pieces if they are original, lets see what others say, I have never handled either patch before so I am unable to say yes or no on them.

The Fahnenträger badge does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling, it lacks the quality one would excpect from an original wartime piece. Also it is pretty widely accepted by collectors that such an example as you post is fake and probably a Paksitan or Far East repro. It is also widely accepted that the BeVo versions are the only true originals.

Wound badge is good.

Kuban Shield shows split rivet type pins. Not accepted by most collectors.

Thanks guys.

I did not pay a lot for them, and will pass on the comments to the new owner if and when we swap.

I do know the war gamer had owned them for over 20 years. He also had a lot of uniforms........I did not even look at them Smile
