I just got all these interesting and clean papers on Obermatrose Wilhelm Ostermann who served as a 4 year Volunteer in the 1.Matrosen Division 6. Kompagnie from 3.4.1907 and was called back on 2.5.1916 .
The papers all came in this neat folder .

Inside the folder was the 'Militaerpass' which itself was within a heavy paper pocket .

Here now the front of the pass dated 1907

After 20 pages of rules and instruction the Page numbered 1 with actual information on Obermatrose Ostermann .

Page 2 notes his promotion to Obermatrose on 1.5.1909 and his release from duty on 31.3.1911 to the Marinereserve in Dortmund .

Page 3 notes his release from the I.Matrosendivision .

Here now the most interesting page :the ships he served on ; SMS Pommern ,Hohenzollern and Hansa ; --and how long he served on each ship.
It is also noted that he took 2 trips with SMS Hansa , one for 41 days to Norway and 130 days to the West Indies . NICE !

Page 10 and 11 show that he was called back into service on 2.5.1916 and that he served until 6.8.1916 .
He was released from service on 8.8.1916 back to Dortmund .

Page 12 shows that Ostermann was released from wartime service on 6.11.1917 ; --but that he was still considered " wehrpflichtig ! "

Page 14 shows some home leave date , addresses , and several ink cancels.

With the passport also came 3 interesting home leave papers .
The 1st one from 21 May 1916 to 1 July 1916 .
The upper corner has a note that he was given a ' free ' railpass back to Dortmund .

..and again a close-up of the nice ink cancel .

..and the backside has this registration date of 22.5.16 in Dortmund and a green cancel .

..on the same backside there is also this green ink cancel with the warning :" not to talk about military matters--since Spionengefahr!!".

The 2 nd leave pass extends his leave from 2.July 1916 to 12 . August 1916 .

..and the 3rd leave pass extends the leave for Obermatrose Wilhelm Ostermann from 13.August 1916 to 23. September 1916 .
But a entry in his military pass shows that he was not released from active service until 6.11.1917 .

Nice documents Bernd. Any chance it's a relative? How common a name is Ostermann? I once bought a US Civil war document just because it had my last name on it but, Doyle is a common Irish name. Still had to have it.

Raymond : There are many OSTERMANN in Germany --and in Milwaukee! Anyhow , like you , I had to have it ; --and it is a great piece of history of the Imperial Navy !
