A very scarce version the small "A". Only seen on Eickhorns and E-packs from my understanding. To have one is a treat in any collection. But Two, and one an NSKK (first one I've seen) ..just a pure pleasure indeed. Congrats John and Thanks for sharing! -serge-

Serge:
Thank you. I picked up the SA from Lakesidetrader early this year and the NSKK from Tom Wittman several months later.
They are like twins with different coloured skirts.

They may not be in the condition that most of Pat's daggers are but these are exceptional none the less.
Well done.

A vary rare dagger twin that you own, John!
Congratulations!
Just be very carefull with these... I have seen several fake blades with this inscription combined with authentic daggers: the etchings are well done but show minor differences with the original inscription. The crossgrain appeared unusual too. One even had a fake pointed wings eagle inserted in the grip.
Best greetings,
Herman

My understanding is that these were very early, but not the earliest, SA/NSKK daggers before the standards were clarified and orders put out for general purchase.
Their life was something on the order of six months or so. That is why you see them with the early trademarks, like the double oval serrated tail CE Eickhorn.
I have seen pictures of even earlier prototype SAs, the so called Christmas dagger and an SA with a Deutschland Uber Alles motto.

I own the Deustchland Uber Alles dagger (or at least, the one that I know of). It's listed in my gallery - are there any others known? I had always thought that mine was the only one, but would be excited to learn of more. Mine is scheduled to appear in Wittmann's book - I just got it back from him (he had it photographed). This one was sold by Tom many years ago, and I was fortunate enough to add it to my collection earlier this year. I also tracked down and bought one of only two Himmler SA daggers (originally sold by Gailen) at this year's MAX show.

Craig:
Yours was the one that I was referring to in my previous note. But, I wouldn't describe where I saw it without your permission.
A Himmler SA? Wow, first time that I have heard of such a thing.
Can you post pictures of it, please?
John

Last time the photos were available was on Gailen's website about 8 years ago. It'll be in Wittmann's book, so I don't know if he wants me to spoil the surprise, but I'll ask. Yeah, it's my dagger, but I don't want to direspect Tom in any way.

I can't even begin to imagine how unpopular an SA mann would have been with the rank and file after receiving a bauble to commemorate his participation in his fellow comrade's slaughter..
I can't even think of a single logical reason as to why two (let alone one..) would exist.
It must be said however that many later high SA officials (Viktor Lutze chief amongst them) directly owed their positions to the party for their acquiescence to the pogrom behind operation 'Hummingbird'.
