Sometimes it pays to tell people what you collect. My coworker has this M42 that his dad brought back form the war. Any idea as to what it's worth? I'd like to make him an offer that's fair to both. Thanks for the help......

Ball parks only.

Fair dealer price 750-875
Fair collector price 625-725
Fair buy price 550 or what you personally are comfortable with.

Looks like it may be an EF, I'll leave that the to the ones that know Wink

Full chinstrap is a seller along with anything that might be on the tag on the liner.

Nice combat helmet.

All the best,

Chris

Bryon I may be high. All my purchases have been from fellow collectors through trades and outright. And a couple from dealers.

Going price for an original bare black helmet shell, loose liner and chinstrap sold seperately is over $400 dollars.

What is offered is what is comfortable to the buyer. Everyone has a different comfort level.

All the best,

Chris

I am not saying the helmet is not worth over $400 dollars but for the situation I would offer $250. Unless the buyer really wants the helmet I would not pay more than $250-$300 for a helmet like this that fell into my lap in this situation. The seller might be thrilled with $250.

Good point. True in a lot of cases I would imagine. In that case it really is up to the buyers comfort level.

Not to rain on anyone's parade but blinking Luftschutz helmets are bringing $250.00 and higher these days as are fire police. If this helmet should come available and it has not been buggered with I will gladly give you $500.00. cheers, Ryan

Ask the owner the price he had in mind for the M42 helmet.

I would be comfortable at $400.00 to $500.00. One thing to consider if this fellow is a real friend, is that he may "hear" after the sale that German helmets are worth more than you offered him. You may be able to explain the difference between retail and private purchase values, but may damage your friendship. You can always print this thread and keep it with the helmet just in case.
