Hi guys, finally I can say I got one after a bit of hassle it's here a very nice '36 SSHR named to Warch with original wear characteristics and research too.

I purchased this from Denny Gaither through the forum here and I can't praise Denny enough for his patience and help,we had a little bit of fun with the postal service Eek.

Enjoy the pics of my new baby.
Dennys pics are also on the forum too.

Sorry also meant to ask can anyone tell me the significance of the issue date 7.3.36 ?

Thanks for the reply's guys I'm very happy with this one, Denny was very helpful.

Not to sure about the original owner yet what happened and what his unit was involved in, maybe see if I can get some more research done on him.

Glad you like it Adam. It is a nice ring.
The date on the ring is for the reannexation of the Rhineland. You might try the Bundesarchiv for further info on Hermann Warch. I didn't try it because my German is so shakey and the English version is not working yet.
Here is the address:
Bundesarchiv
Postfach 45 05 69,
12175 Berlin, Germany
http://www.bundesarchiv.de/

When I sent this ring off to Adam in Australia, I accidentally omitted a portion of the address. I don't sell enough stuff to be good at it I guess. However, I must commend Adam for his patience and poise while we both sweated it out waiting to see what happened. In spite of a rather significant amount of his money being in the hands of a stranger, Adam never lost his sense of humor.
In spite of the problems we see occasionally on this site, I still think we have pretty special people here. We should all remember that!
Well, I no longer have a nice SSHR but I gained a new friend. Good on ya, mate!

Great looking ring.I just had to add my two cents worth on the subject. As a lot of people know i do hotel buys about once a month.About 15 years ago, i did one in Buffalo New York, I bought three SS honor rings off of one veteran, he had brought home about seven of them and had given them away to friends and only had the three left.
The reason iam telling this story, is the way the price has gone crazy on these rings, when i had the three rings the most i could sell them for was $ 400- $ 500 a piece, if i only had them now.I just bought a SS/panzer skull ring off of a vet last month, it is in the sellers forum right now, when he told me he had taken it off of a SS soldier, my heart skiped a beat, hoping it was a SS honor ring.
Well thanks for listening.
The best, Bob

Sorry guys just another question, if I wanted a Don Boyle certificate for future reference would he have to had a hands on of the ring as I would be very reluctant to post this overseas again due to the value of this piece of history.

Slayer,, Don will only authenticate a ring and issue a certificate if he has the ring in hand..

I've seen the ring in hand and so have others [maybe Don too?] proficient in the HR.. Everyone thats ever handled the ring has liked it.
Its a fine example of a good honestly worn 30s style pattern... ,G.

Adam,
I would suggest that you print out the threads that discuss your ring. Including this thread, I believe there are three (four counting the one on MCF where the moderator endorses it). Each one contains ringing endorsements from several experts. They have been happy to provide their expertise for no charge. Why pay good money to someone who will say the same thing?
If you decide you must have Don's endorsement, I have an Aussie friend who will be coming to the SoS in February. He will be glad to hand-carry it to Louisville if you can arrange for Don to be there and evalue it.

Bob,
Seven SSHR's? I'm afraid my heart would have conked out!!!

Adam,

Congrats on a great ring. It's good to have one that's been papered already as well as having some research already done. No need for it to be sent anywhere anymore.

It's also good to hear you never lost your sense of humor regarding the ring's long transit to you. I know mine took over a week & it never left the states. I don't think I got a good night's sleep until it was in my hands.

Thanks for the input guys, I only thought about Don Boyle as an afterthought I don't plan on selling in the near future this ring is now the centre piece of my collection.
Thanks for the offer Denny, as you said quite a few notable collectors have seen this one already and given it there blessing which I'm grateful for all everyones help.
Maybe one day I'll pop over to the states and see Don myself with the ring in hand.

Thanks guys glad to be in the club. Big Grin
