Hi again, here is another discussion I would like to have.I have always understood that all HJ/DJ Diamonds should have the gold/copper look around the diamond. Now latley I have seen some diamonds that have the silver look to them that has been accepted as a good dagger. If the diamond fits right and has the wiggle has the right dimples in the red does this make it good?So what exactly is accepted as a good diamond or are both types actually good.Hope to have another good discussion on this.
Thanks again Shawn

Silver diamonds can become copper/gold ones over time by aging (due to oxidation I guess), see picture of a silver diamond with brown spots.
Your silver one does not look original to the knife: the knife is well worn but the diamond looks brand new.
Best greetings,

Herman
Does your silver edged diamond have a silver or gold area under the swastika? Is it flecked - looks hard to tell in the pics?
Regards Russell

SILVER NG = No good?
DDH, The HJ's I have, all have golden insignia, is it your opinion that the silvered ones are bad or replacement diamonds, in all cases. It would certainly be good to know when trying to authenticate a knife, especially with adapted scout knives.

Just looking through the Eickhorn Catalog for 1938. I can't speak for all manufacturers, but the Eickhorn version when new looks to be silver diamond, silver border.

Not sure if I can describe this correctly but I have seen some stone mint examples that I believe are real with silver colored diamonds. I have never seen a worn or beat up HJ with a silver diamond. I believe, similar to Herman, that the silver on real ones oxidizes or somehow ages to gold. Ok, having said that I am always suspicious of the silver ones and it gives me cause to check the rest of the piece over careful. Putting hard and fast rules these things is difficult.

When new I believe they were silver-but few still have any left. As Paul says-look hard when you see a silver one.
