I just picked this up, its an WAFFEN SS SD tunic, here are the pics tell me what you think, the belt came with it, this belonged to an sd member that close to the end of the war hid his uniforms and strated wearing a regualr German Army tunis, this was hidden away in his house since the end of the war, i cannot believe i got this, it came from a actuall WAFFEN SS SD member.

thank you

Hi Brian, while interesting, this is a rare tunic. It should have some very specific markings, tags, labels and a distinct interior construction. When you can, please show us the interior, back of the collar and the insignia and then we can study it more closely and form some opinions. Thanks Wink

The basic jacket is without question original. As to when the insignia was applied is always hard to tell from pics..

I like the eagle and the shoulder boards and the way you can see the different rates of oxidation in the dyes of the cotton/rayon blend cloth. I would hazard a guess is that it is late war material. I at first thought it might be an early SS VT drill tunic but, I'm not convinced of that anymore. What about the lower pockets and the cuff reinforcing? Hope to hear more. The SA 'sports' badge is not too uncommon. Confused

it is a late war, i was told by the individual that he was injured, and had to replace the tunic due to his wounds, And the fact that the tunic was was hidden in in attic wrapped in newspapers since the end of the war, he hid it due to all SD members would haveprobable been shot ot hung, he found a regualar army tunic and wire it, he worked for the US ARMY after the war until his retirement.

Hello,

Sorry for a police collector to butt in here, but the material is typical police issue summer HBT cotton. The "flecked" orange/green is typical of police summer tunics. Its not oxidized, it is made that way. It is also cut in typical "police" configuration, with back buttons, rather than "army" pattern.

Just my humble contribution to the discussion. Roll Eyes

Thank Goodness the 'Police' butt in once in awhile. Thanks Bill for the clarification regarding the green/orange flecked pattern. I am corrected and convinced although I still feel that you can discern a difference in the rayon vs. the cotton regarding exposure rates to UV light. What would the SD be without some police involvement regarding uniforms, equip. etc. I'm still not sure of the back cut of this tunic and to me the use of the 2 belt support buttons reflects more towards early Weimar and parade(also police) tunics. Please show us the interior. By the way, these type of discussions are what make this forum enojyable and an education to me even if I need to be 're-educated' some times(most times?) Have fun. Im curious!

We got photo's of a party pin and a sport badge, but no shot of the partisan badge?. If that badge is real, I would imagine it would lend creedance to the tunic. But im not a cloth guy, But I would be looking at that badge.

Best,

Kris

Brian,

I am curious. I saw this tunic for sale on ebay last week before it was pulled. Now you have it for sale on this forum. Did you buy it from ebay or are you trying to authenticate it for sale here? The same story of where it came from was told on ebay. Is there any proof of the provinance for this tunic?

This tunic is not a SD tunic. It is a standard Polizei Summerjacke as Bill stated above. It seems to have SD insignia sewn onto it but these jackets were worn by the Ordnungspolizei and not the Sicherheitspolizei. Sicherheitspolizei tunics were cut entirely differently than this tunic. This tunic is cut in the standard 1936 ORPO style with an eight or six button front and a closed collar. It also has pleated patch breast pockets and unpleated patch lower pockets, which SD tunics did not have.

What you seem to have is a standard Ordnungspolizei tunic with Sicherheitspolizei insignia sewn to it. Not a Waffen-SS tunic or a standard SD tunic at all, IMHO.

No, i did not get this off ebay, someone contacted me off from here, when i put a message in the forums saying that iam looking for SS / SA /HJ uniforms, thats how i came upon it.

Either way i have it hold/sold to a person that said they are sending me some money to put down on it, He said he getting his tax money in a week or two, so if he will send me the rest, if not i have his non-reufundable deposit on it.

if he does not come through on it, ill re-list it.

thank you

All I can say is that this same tunic, with the same story of where it came from, was listed on ebay last week and cancelled by ebay this week. Not a similar tunic, but this exact same tunic. When asked about ebay, you deny it came from ebay and post pictures here that were on ebay and some new ones.

You are a brand new member here and this is one of your first posts where you ask for an opinion on one section of the forum and then try to sell the same tunic on another section. You then say you sold it to someone else when hard questions are asked by members about it.

Very odd. Roll Eyes

I dont understand the need to state "Non-Refundable deposit" Especially since it is stated in the for sale section that it was sold to a friend?. Yet here it just says a person is sending money and waiting for tax proceeds as if he does not even know the buyer.

And I still cant figure out why a silver anti-partisan badge is not pictured and a cheap party badge and sport badge are.

If the seller does not allow inspection and deposits are non-refundable to his friends, then what would happen if a member unknown to him were to make a purchase.

Also, you state "I can't believe I got it!" and the next second want to get rid of it! Most collectors stumbling onto an SD tunic would probably stare at it for at least a year.I assure you, market value would not be the first thought! Cheers.

Hi All, I like that eagle, Kevin, you don't feel that it is a legit variation? Congrats to whoever the 'friend' was who purchased this aberration for $7000. Confused

Dave I am pretty certain that Mike was kidding. The tunic is abhorent in so far as pretending to be an SD tunic. I am pretty sure that there is little that is correct about this tunic including the story of its sale. cheers, Ryan S

Worth the value of the tunic as a stripped Police item, and of the sh. boards if real. Thanks ORPO et al for interceding with "Mr. Typo" on this cobbled-together tunic. "Can't believe it!" indeed...

Macki - yes for sure a museum-grade display and lifelike forms - shows a lot of thought and knowledge plus the good use of a well-padded bank account! Congrats.

Alright Guys, I got off my lazy butt and went down stairs and grabbed one of my beloved birds out of their box and again I stand corrected for running my mouth about how I liked the sleeve eagle. Yes, Dave you can indeed get something similiar to what the site you showed us has available. I do find some differences as to what is shown on the tunic and what they are offereing. I have to be what is in the best of my knowledge(whatever that may be) an original example of what they are trying to copy. Hope to see everybody at SOS and we can all see/disagree. Wink
