Hello all, Not a german piece so not sure if I posted this in correct area, not even sure really if this is mlitary related object but here goes. Found this item in with a bunch of British and Canadian metal insignia so I assume it might be british but don't really know. Attached is a picture of obverse of badge. Reverse of badge seems to have markings of G&S Co Ltd. or something like that and also seems to be a jewelers mark(?)which I can't see very well but looks like a rampant lion,a lion's head and the letter H? Attachment on rear looks as if a cotter pin or the likes would go thru two attachment devices. Front has wording that looks like Latin? Any ideas as to what it is and what it was worn on? Thanks for any help. Duzig(Bill)

Interesting piece. It does appear to be military related. My Latin is quite rusty, except for "Church Latin", but the words are something like this: Hosti - can refer to a sacrificial animal or a large number of troops ( i.e. a host of soldiers) Acie can be translated as "battle line" Nominati - most probably means something like "well known" or "famous" I hope this is of some help . Cheers, -Mike

Hello again, Mike I thank you much for your help & info regarding this item. Your latin may be somewhat rusty but at least you know some LOL. Paul I thank you also for your help and identification of this badge. I figured it might be english or canadian being as I said that it came with a bunch of english or canadian badge. The figure on the badge and the trident type item he's holding led me to think that maybe it was something perhaps worn by sailors or something too. Nice to get correct information regarding it in any case. Again I thank you both for your help and information. Duzig(Bill)

Good information Paul. My main problem was with the verb. From your information it seems to be from Nomino - are - to name, to give a name to, to call, to mention to speak about, to make famous, etc. etc. Thanks for the clarification. I'll do better next time.... -Mike

Great photo - love the badge. The CEF is but little known in the USA, and certainly deserving of our respect.
