I picked up this tunic today I was wondering if someone could tell me more about it. It came with the service hat, HJ armband, helmet (NS62) and a bunch of other items. The should boards have a dark blue felt underline

Looks like a Medical Lt who decided to upgrade an EM tunic. Do the collar tabs look like they have been on it for a long time? Considering the slip-on shoulderboards, this tunic could have been up-graded after the war......

I would speculate the shoulder boards have been there since it was brought back. All these items were dug out of the vet's garage after he had passed away. There was a third party as the go-between from the family to me that helped them with pricing, I had to pay a whopping $150 for the tunic, hat and armband.

Very nice! Is it me, or does it seem like the underlay of the boards have been eaten away by a critter(moths?)?
Can you please post some better photos of the underlay as well as the underside of the collar, where the tabs are attached?
Nice finds.

This is the first tunic I've purchased and was also needing to know what to do to prevent future feedings and what's the best way to store these. I prefer to keep it in it's original state as found unless it's going to be at risk for futher damage. thanks

I store my uniforms in hanging boxes, with socks full of mothballs. I have had good results. The only bummer is the strong smell in the area, but my collection room is not near a "high traffic" area of the house, so there is no problem.

That is a very impressive collection. I would venture to guess you're either not married or your wife is the most understanding woman. My military collection USED to be displayed openly until I made the fatal mistake of co-habitating with my girlfriend. At which time slowly but surely the collection in it's entirety seemed to "migrate" to the lower level of the house around the corner and out of view. Thanks for the info of critter control.

Its like this I own the house out right and no ONE is going tell me what i can do in my own home.un less they at least come up least half the value of the house in cash! Till then i display my things as i see fit if you know what i am saying. Was lucky last G/F was in to it I have seen that happen to few buddies one just after Schindler's list came out

Looks like the officers collar tabs are sewn right over the EM's, as evidenced by the back of the collar....

The tunic skirt was shortened also. Note, only one belt support hook hole over the right lower pocket. From what I have learned this was a common practice during the late war period.
