I just noticed that the two 1936 Olympic medals I have are nothing alike. The eagle, head and wings are different. The rings are different and the pillar is different. Both are nice die struck out of the same or very simular metals. Very nice surfaces, tarnish makes one look porous. Hope the pictures show the differences.

On the reverse the font is very different and one has a much wider rim. The date on the obverse is very different also.

Barker, any way you can make the images a little larger? I see some of the differences.

I had nice images, I had to reduce them to post them. How do I do larger?

BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE QUALITY OF THE STRIKE for sure. This is one medal that surely had many producers.

I have never seen an example with the large 1936 date before.
Have observed one repro example but it resembled the small date medal.
If no one else posts their examples I will dig out mine in a day or so.

Been on a scouting expedition. Saw no large 1936 date examples. Did see one example of a 1957 period Olympic medal with the same large 1936 Font. 57's have no eagle/wreath and the date is located further up.
Still looking. --dj--Joe

My example, obverse. It is silver plated tombac with signs of frosting still present. --dj--Joe
