Thanks Dave,it has languished in a drawer for years,I guess since the vet.brought it home and has never been in a collection, the hanger is the best I have seen, marked DRGM with a A with a bar through it,so well preserved. What is your stand on cleaning, patina or not.
Ivan.

Great looking acquisition. I would wipe the blade down with a clean cotton rag & leave it alone. Looks great as is.

I tend to try to keep them in presentable shape. Not really sparkling as when they were issued, but as if they had been well cared for.

- Hanger: Use shoe polish or Renwax to beep the leather in good shape

- Grip: Give it a coat or three of a furniture wax or Renwax. The wood looks scratched and dry.

- SA rune button: that green crud should come off with a little pressure from a soft cloth.

- Blade: Pub some light oil / Renwax / liquid silicon on the blade and wipe it off with a soft cloth. Do that three or four times until the cloth comes away clean.

- Crossguards: I see green crud and that stuff eventually leaves marks on the nickel silver. Rub off what you can.

- Scabbard: A coat ot two of Renwax rubbed off gently should see you clean.

There are members here who will tell you to nothing at all and some prefer stuff that looks as if it has not been touched or maintained since 1945. Your choice. Big Grin

If you want to know how to get it apart, let me know.

Dave

Very nice looking dagger Grip, good score!

To keep on the fishing theme, one of these Penn reel spanners fits perfectly to take down an SA!

Russell

I still use my original Penn wrench from 1972 that cost 15 cents- and I agree with Dave, I would lightly clean this one.Mike

Great SA Ivan (!) Smile

It's a Rarer maker for SA's and a Rare Maker for SS 33's.

You are building your collection Nicely.

I'd follow Dave H's advice on maintenance...

Anyone know which Penn Reel wrench that is, in Russell's photo?...I'd like to buy one, but there are a couple of different ones online.

Thanks,
