No, these came out of an old collection years ago. Crude, but probably some of the Spanish or Indian fakes.

Ron,

Good of you to post these - ref our previous conversation.

I don't think that these are any of the Spanish copies, the main manufacturer of which is the concern of Marto, in Toledo.

In the late 1960s an English dealer based in London had quantities of SA, SS, RAD, RLB, and Postschutz pieces made up in Spain - but in all cases the swastika was the right way round, unlike the reverse image example shown with your pieces.

I recall an advert in the Shotgun Times in the late 70s or early 80s, from the Doone Gunworks in India, offering various Third Reich Daggers, plus Civil War-style American Sabres. I suspect that your items might well have come from the same source. So if any person has additional information I would be most pleased to hear about it.

Thanks for putting them up for view.

PS. I should have said "Shotgun News" - I got confused with the "Shooting Times" which is a journal that we have over here in the UK.

Ron, these things are nasty. They wouldn't even look good at closing time. A good idea to post what is and what ain't.
With your permission I would like to step it up a notch to further educate others who may be new to the hobby no matter what the age or years of experience in our sickness colony.

Red flags open to all.

jim m, you crack me up. How have you been buddy?

Jim M,

Yes, you are right about these reversed swastikas - perhaps they were intended for the Azad Hind Legion!

As a matter of fact, Rob NL (over on the Sword forum, "RK Winner Sword...."etc) claims that he has spoken to the former owner of his sword with the reversed hakenkreuz, and that the man told him that he didn't notice it when he bought it! Well, it was January 1945, and I suppose he might have had other matters on his mind.

It is good to see that some collectors are doing serious research with their collections, rather than just handing over wads of money and then not appreciating what they have bought. It must just break their dealer's heart to realise that it is only a fiscal transaction, and not a subject of academic study.

I'm doing fine. Thanks for asking!

Fred:
I have a new reversed swastika theory. These items were made for personnel that were to be posted South of the Equator! Anyway that's my theory and I'm sticking to it!! Roll Eyes Big Grin

By golly, Jim, I think you have cracked it! It makes perfect sense.

After all, south of the equator, the vortex of water draining down the plug hole in the bath goes in the opposite direction as it does north of the equator. Another mystery solved. What a team!
