Yes I agree 100% with you , that it is overpriced to a dealer for resale.

I don't think it's too far off the mark. The prices on these are always escalating so it will be interesting to see how quick it goes. Jerry - "wedge cap" is a term from the land of "Canadia"

Have look at the " Ruptured duck" webpage He selling a mothed up Waffen SS peak cap for 3450.00 US and Officer peak cap for 11,500.00 US and em's m43 ss caps for 3695.00 US then the collectors Guild is just has bad with M40 SS em 's wedge cap or overseas cap for around 3900.00 US. I think I am priced right.

Well I have seen the prices go approximately like this:
2003 $3000
2004 $3500
2005 $4200
2006 $5000 to $5500
This is for infantry officers M40's with both flatwire and enlisted insignia.

I have never understood why we debate whether the prices being asked are reasonable or not. The seller has the right to ask whatever he likes and potential buyers can pass if they feel that price is too high. It is something called a free market and that market will determine (by its purchases) what price is right.

You are correct and right on the money . Seller's perogative and buyer's right to say yeah or nay. Too expensive for me but in 3 to 5 years it will have been a deal. I passed on a mint, un-issued SS overseas cap two years ago for $1000.00 because I couldn't afford it. Passed the info on to a collector friend who purchased it. I did not know at the time that the cap was easily worth $2400.00. I would have taken out a loan had I known. By the way, a very nice cap and when you compare it to others available an apparent bargain. Also just because a dealer is asking a price does not mean 1) that is what the piece is worth or 2) That the item will actually sell for the price asked. cheers, Ryan

I am not saying you cannot ask this much for your fine looking cap. It is just too rich for my blood for what it is. I think Bill Shea is completely overpriced and Peter Whammond is actually selling items on consignmenet so everything has a commission (10-20%)built in to the price.

I guess the price is based on what the market will allow. This field of collecting left my pocketbook even before I really got started. But then again, rare is rare. Oh, and as for "Wedge Cap", you have to be from the Commonwealth. Cheers!

Here are the two in my collection-both about size 56 and in almost identical (VG) condition. The one at left has a plain grey lining while the lining in the one at right has a slightly pinkish coloration to it. Sorry, no vet provenance on either of these, but they are both 'right'.
