Hi
What you have there is a German model 1915 jager zu Pferd helmet (mounted dispatch riders ) . Just missing the chinstrap , ****ades and the front plate( Prussian dragoon eagle) . Plus it has the wrong spike base. For the camo,my opinion is that someone thought it was cool to jazz up the helmet with a camo scheme.
Thanks Joe Semen

I have never seen that style helmet painted in that fashion. My gut feeling tells me it may have been painted by a US soldier on the way home on the ship, they did that. The base is not the correct type for that type helmet but who know when it was added.I also like the way it has not been cleaned.Even if a USA soldier did it. It is still a period item, just something that was done then.

It could very well be real. But, my gut tells me Zorro is barking up the right tree on the paint. quote: Originally posted by zorro: I have never seen that style helmet painted in that fashion. My gut feeling tells me it may have been painted by a US soldier on the way home on the ship, they did that. The base is not the correct type for that type helmet but who know when it was added.I also like the way it has not been cleaned.Even if a USA soldier did it.
