I have this 1st pattern SA sports badge with zero finish remaining and I am not sure originaly what class of award it was?, can anybody tell from the base metal, it does not look like the few bronze examples still available to view in the archives?

Also, take a look at the 2nd curio, its not German but wondered if anybody could shed some light on this personalised 1943 dated enamel thing Smile

Regards

The enamel cross might be Masonic, I know they had a "32nd Degree Mason" level. perhaps some Brother in the secret society can shed some light.

I think Jerry is right about the enamel pin, masonic, as for the sports badge, your right it does not look like a bronze one but hard to tell, I have a first pattern bronze almost in the same condition and the metal looks different, even compare toe a later bronze it seems different, I did compare it to a first pattern gold class but it's hard to say, my personal opinion is it was silver class, my bronze badge though worn heavily and with age dosn't seem to look like yours. Hope this helps.

Jerry,
Thanks, I never thought of that, I automatically deduced a miltary connection, he must have done alot of secret hand-shaking to warrant getting his name engraved. Smile

One down, one to go !!

Edit : Fritzii, its a tough one to call I know, I looked at your 4 examples in the archives and like you say, not even close to the bronze base metal, I could not find a worn silver example to compare!.
There must be loads of these sat in collections, so hopefully someone will chime in.

It is a 32nd degree Mason's neck cross.
