I remember some time ago somebody had posted a fliegerschwert that he supposedly bought from Rall recently. He had the documentation and such. I swore it was here at GDC where the new owner had posted it, however I can't locate the thread. Perhaps it was elsewhere. Does anyone else recall that topic?

I know where the thread is. Contact me if you wish to know as I do not want to break any rules of this forum (it's on a competing forum).

What is wrong with posting the link so we all can read about it? Ron

Hi Ron,

I assure you I would rather have posted the link right from the start and will do so now:

http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274847&highlight=rall

In case this is in any way in breach of rules here, please remove the link. However, I think there should be no such rule since we are all here because we are collectors and want to learn new things.

Hello JAN
Thank you. I am pretty sure it doesn't violate any of the rules. The forum is and should be a place to share information regardless of which forum it is on. Again, Thank you, Ron

Not to digress too much, but I do know where Jan is coming from. It can be considered an insult to some people to post links or information from another site as there is some bad blood between various people and various places. I don't want to elaborate on it...you can figure it out with a little archive searching.

It's also like using someones name..even first name only..in a post. Many of us use only "handles" and don't provide any information about ourselves...this is typically for security purposes and some people are just a little more private than others. Sometimes, in a post we accidentally post that persons name because we may know them...forgetting that everyone else may not. Sort of a faux-pas in the inernet collecting world.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but i hope our members will realize that many and i mean many of the personalities of the Third Reich have sold contemporary items as theirs, when in fact, they have not owned their own pieces since the end of the war.

I can quote you chapter and verse of at least two KC winners who regularly sell 'their' insignia for huge amounts of money to unwary, and un-savvy collectors.

They may be older now, but they are far from stupid.

I pose a rhetorical question..do you really think that after 60+ years, that the greatest of aces have never been contacted by enthusiasts and dealers alike for their items?

It beggars belief that they would A) still own the piece, and B) not put a premium on the item being sold..

Even with famous people, the collecting mantra stands, buy the item and not the story.

Doug-
Agreed. With a claim like that one really needs to establish some pretty incontrovertable eveidence to tie the artifact to the owner. Certainly there needs to be a high degree of scrutiny should the item be listed for sale. If it really did belong to Rall, it certainly would be a VERY nice piece.
