I'd say it was the Army's 5th Kavallerie regiment. They wore a metal Totenkopf derived from the design of the skull of the head-dress of the Imperial Prussian 1st & 2d Leib-Husaren Regiments; this metal skull was worn on the Nazi Army shoulder boards,(& of course they'd have the golden-yellow underlay like yours), & worn on the peakcaps, positioned on the front between the eagle & the wreath. In 1933, this skull began to be worn by the Regimental Staff & certain squadrons of the Heer's 5th Cavalry Regiment.
Wow... That is a tragidy. Where was this tunic found?
Found in a barrel with the hat and a flag. The breast eagle is nice.

It's tragic to see this once finely crafted, and worn with pride, uniform in this condition. Unfortunately not everyone feels the way we do for these pieces of history. It's hard to tell from the photos but, how much work would be required to restore the tunic and hat to a somewhat respectful looking condition?Maybe if the wrinkles were taken out and the collar tab reapplied it would look much better. Can you get a close-up photo of the ribbon bar?
It is in the mail to me from the next province . Will post more if desired when it arrives.

I think this tunic is too far gone to even be called salty. Wonderful insignia, though. Always a tragedy to see something fine like this destroyed by neglect.
I'd buy it, if the price was right. I actually prefer uniforms with history to those in pristine condition. This one would take some TLC to even display, though.
David!
Wonderful find Paul! That tunic does not look too bad at all. Have you done anything with it?
Kind regards,
Davey
YA ALL INSIGINIA IS OFF AND THE TUNIC IS up in smoke. it was way to far gone breaking to the touch
PAUL
Even the visor?
Can you please show photos of the insignia that remains?
THE VISOR remains still looking for someone to stich the visor back on.
I am glad that it could be saved.
I wonder why the material on the tunic fell apart? Something spill on it a long time ago? I really want to see the visor once it is repaired. Also, lets see the insignia you were able to salvage from the tunic!
Regards
Paul
here are scans of the insignia the shoulders are badly oxidized and out of shape. The uniform and a flag had been in wet conditions and some moths had found thier way into the barrel at some point and total shame but he fought for it he had no desire to see it again after coming home so there it stayed.
shoulders
collars
Still a nice and attributed lot! I am glad that you were able to salvage the insignia. Do you have any photos of the veteran? Where there any loops on the tunic? Was there a tag(name) inside the jacket?
Sorry for all of the questions!
Regards
Paul
Paul,
Did you find someone to stitch the visor back on , could you post pics of the inside of the visor and will it be for sale as is .

I searched the tunic for an ID again and again but found nothing never was anything. As for the visor once I find someone to do the work will have a long look and make a decision at that time keeping in mind those who have shown the keen interest here. Oh and loops for awards yes two ek1 and ?
PAUL
