These carved bone mounted swords were sold to Western tourists around the end of the 19th and early 20th century. I have never seen a good blade in these carved bone mountings. Although you rpictures are not the best, the blade in this piece appears to be a true Japanese sword blade. However, mounted in these mounts, I am sure it has one or more fatal flaws to the blade.
