From the receiver markings it looks like a Japanese Naval Special Type 99 rifle. Can you post a picture of the side of the receiver, the serial number area? The serial number should be some where between 1 and 780.
thanks don-here is a picture. paul
The prices on these have really risen in the last few years. I sold one about five years ago and now see folks asking twice what I let mine go for.

Seems to be the story of my collecting life.
Hi All, I am told that the model 38 & the model 99 are both valued in the $300-$400 range. Could that be accurate? Last time I bought a Japanese rifle they were worth around $50 for a real nice one. I have one with the mum missing, rod missing, an no dust cover. It is in almost MINTY cond both inside & out. Could I really get $300-400 for it? ANY response would help. Peace, Mark
HELLO MARK- THEY HAVE TO BE SUPER NICE-N0 PROBLEM RIFLES TO GET ANYWHERE NEAR THOSE PRICES. THE ONE PICTURED IS A VERY SCARCE NAVAL- SEE ANCHOR.

I agree. A lot will depend upon the arsonal and series as well. Some are a lot more scare than others. Not too long ago I sold a fully matching mummed 38 that finally brought $300, but it took a while to get that price.
