Hallo Kurt_Menliff Luetzow s from the EICKHORN Feldherrenserie are rare. Up to now I have seen only brass based hilts. This is for me the first lightweight one (perhaps the same material which can be found with Prinz Eugen sabers) which is without any doubt a nice period variant, I get to know. Congratulations!
What I also find interesting is that the K.NEGELE - TUEBINGEN distributor mark obviously had to be placed before the saber had been assambled and therefore EICKHORN had to habe the distributor stamp in house!

This once has been my Luetzow with brass hilt.

Regards,

Another great saber my friend.

Thank you mark ! :)

I'm glad for that one, it has been a long search but an icredible bargain ! got it for a few hundred bucks !!! still can't believe it !

I'm surprise, i thought LUTZOW were almost light versions.

THis alloy isn't the same as PE, nor aluminium, strange cooking receipe !

WOTAN, how many of them have you encountered over the years ?

Best Regards

K.

Hello Kurt_Menliff, what I have owned, handled, seen and in files I think there have been 8 to 10 Luetzows.

Hello M Wipf, due to your first three postings let me welcome you to the forum. The pics of your EICKHORN sabers are very impressive. The full series is always a treat. Congratulations! Just for completeness Eickhorn NEVER did title the series as -fieldmarshall series- but as -Feldherrn Serie- (Commander Series) as not each named commander of the series has had the title field marshal. The correct name of the series is mentioned in contemporary lists.

Wotan,

Thanks for the heads up, "Feldherrn Serie" it is. Makes sense.

Could you show me these contemporary lists?

Hello M Wipf, I don t have these lists myself but eg. in -Die Blankwaffen des Deutschen Reiches 33-45- by Siegert there is on pg 352 (the well known Eickhorn Nachricht Nr. 15, Hausmitteilung der Firma Carl Eickhorn, Ein neues Modell der Feldherrnserie; I am sure it could be found anywhere in the net) and on pg 365 (Nr 1735 MODELL -Derffliner- der Ferldherrnserie) a pic of a part of an EICKHORN list and in each time -Feldherrnserie- is written.

BTW, this is a truely complete Feldherrnserie of a friend. Note: 2 Wrangel with the crossguard eagles looking in different directions and 2 Roon with different crossguard emblems (eagle and oakleaf).

I am only missing three of the swords to the set and hopefully some day get the rest. Awesome collection and love the reverse eagle on the Wrangle. Does anyone know if the early Blucher had the eagle facing the other way as well? I have the Leopard that faces backward and was just curious.
Posted By: Vern Re: Eickhorn Lutzow - 05/27/2020 04:31 AM
I've seen the reverse facing eagle on the lion head but not on the Blucher.

Vern, The lions head would be the Blucher correct??? I have it on the Nr. 1695 Leopard head and just curious if it came on the Nr. 1710 Blucher.
Posted By: Vern Re: Eickhorn Lutzow - 05/28/2020 01:53 AM
No, this was an earlier lion head sword with the double oval and did not have the "Ges. Gesch" mark. The design date on the Blucher was 1938.
Posted By: Ritterkreuz Re: Eickhorn Lutzow - 05/28/2020 03:54 AM
Ok I know the one you are revering too. I thought that was also classified as the Blucher with no pins in the handle.

That looks like a normal Blucher guard with the regular left facing eagle. The one I referred to has the eagle head reversed (facing right) with the lion head grip strap, but I believe it is an earlier sword. Beside the pins, I see some other differences between this grip back strap and the lion head strap used on the Blucher model.

Here is a photo of the sword with the reversed Blucher eagle. As you can see, while the eagle and bow look the same, it is not the Blucher model.

Vern I know the lions head I posted is a weird mixture of parts as it looks like a Blucher but has no pins holding the back strap plus there is differences in the back strap itself around where the pins would go. Would love to find another one facing the wrong direction like my book end Wrangles.

That is the Nr. 1695 Leopard head model.

Thanks Vern but I was wondering if the Blucher lions head had a rear facing eagle as well?

Never seen a Blucher with the reversed eagle.

Guys
I do not have anything to as to this, but thought it may be of interest to you.
Have you seen the Blucher that Tom Wittmann has on his site now?
Kind of sweet, Silver, with SS marks.
