According to my copy of Musterbuch der Waffenfabrik Carl Eickhorn, Wurttemburg, Baden and Hesse all utilized the knuckle bow that your sword has, which is not common in German swords. I think Austrian swords also utilized that design. Your sword might be a Hessian model 797 Infantry officer's saber but I cannot tell for sure without seeing the backstrap. I hope this helps

Welcome to the forum. In agreement, this example is the less commonly seen Lionhead version of Hessian Infantry Officer's saber. Most likely of WW I vintage. Best Regards, Fred
