After several years of adding to this I thought I would thank
Wotan, Baz, and Hubertus for the inspiration after seeing their
posts. I started with the dagger only. After time went by I became frustrated as I learned how hard {for me} it is to find a real portepee. Alas a week ago I received my first hunting knot! I am thrilled! Besides the visible traits that makes them
unique, what also impressed me is the thickness of the strap and relative heft, I suppose from the aluminum wire used to weave. At any rate that old Quality is obvious! Thanks!

Fantastic collection of DJ related material, keep going there's plenty more to find.
Finding this particular knot is difficult at best so well done, does it have the green accents of the standard knot or the brown accents of the proffesional hunters knot?.

Thanks Gary! It's the green members knot! Clemen & Jung! The only issues are 1 ding in the leather surface of scabbard about
midway front. Blade is in great shape except for a very few bb
size dark spots!

Thank you for your interest. The plate is not maker marked. I got it from a guy in Nashville who said it was a family bringback. It is approx 9.5in in diameter. Image is baked into the finish. Has the 2 holes for hanging loop. Anyone else have
one similar? Good Hunting!

can you use a loupe and tell if the images are transferred or hand painted, or a combination of both?

Mikee, I've seen older Saxon Jäger batallion plates marked by Meissen, but not many NS Jägerschaft examples. I'm wondering if they're usually marked from states, (like this one) regional hunting districts or even from actual preserves?

Anyone have any further examples of these plates?

After carefull looking with a loupe, it seems the lettering,DJ emblem, skull, swaz and rays were all transfered. Very flat and smooth.
Then the foilage has minor differences from side to side and is slightly raised as a brush stroke would make. Same with the inside of the Antlers, raised. So it seems by hand but before it was baked.

I think your right. The very few I've seen like the one shown all were marked on the front of the plate very similar to this one using Gau or Kreis etc. I remember some not maker marked. What I remember, of those that had a manufactures mark, the manufacturer was from the same area. I wish I had a period one to show! I like it!

It looks like it had a touch of restoration around the eleven o'clock position, do you think so? Even if it was repaired that is something exceptional. Thanks for popping that gem in here for us.

Bill you have a good eye. It came from the Townes collection that was displayed years ago at the Max in Pgh. They are so expensive it is worth the having to look at and compaire. The other Plat came from Weitze n Germany.

Exceptional plates! That historic Sevres Goring plate is special! Thanks for sharing those with us! If made of porcelain, pewter, wood or all the above it doesn't matter to me, I like them all. I recently posted a hand carved wood plate in the Miscellaneous Militaria and Regalia Forum, it doesn't even compare to what is shown here, but still a piece of art work in my eyes. Thanks.

treedctr, thank you for your very kind words. You for sure have a nice assembly of DJ artefacts. You are quite right, the heaviness of these original DJ portepees is overwhelming.

Thank you Paul! I am no way a skillful photographer. I think it was just luck. I only remeber that I did not use any flash and the weather was cloudy. I also think that the greenish-honey colored velvet, the green leather scabbard, the portepee with it´s brown stripes and the green/brown leather accoutrement do additional effects.
This CuJ is (together with my EICKHORN DJ) one of my most appreciated daggers.
