I was talking with a dealer friend of mine with a large group of collectors over dinner one night at the MAX and happened to mentioned if he had ever seen a "Dog" Seilheimer Hirschfanger.
He said "yes, once, they are very rare. You just don't see them."
The next day comes over my table and hands me this dagger. We both couldn't believe it since we just mentioned the night before. As Amazing as it could be it was brought to him the next day and here it is now.

Very scarce maker

I saw this at the Max, even though it's pictured in their catalouge it's not something I ever believed I'd see, it's one of those dreams that only very rarely come true. I should think there are very few daggers with this mark on them let alone a forestry, I've not come across anything with this mark before, it's another one to add to the list of wants.

Thanks Serge for posting such a rare piece.

Cheers

Awesome stuff Wag's being a Seilheimer collector I concur with the previous comments. I have seen only one forectry by PS before (circle MM) never in the dog with sword. Great catch mate.

Gary,

Are you saying there's one you DON'T have? Smile

Serge,

Beautiful etch pattern & conditioning of the entire piece.

Houston: Must be since I never knew that the Seilheimer "Dog" made an appearance. How many Forestry "dogs" have you seen?

Gary: You were at the dinner table. Really an unusual occurance that the very next day it would just drop into my lap. My eyes just about popped out. I thought at first it was a joke. Even Johnny was astonished. He's a Seilheimer "Dog" guy too.

Tony: Even the P.S. trademark is scarce. Thanks for the congrats.

Billy:Yes, I was surprised also when Gary didn't have one. Now I really knew I had a rare bird. Razz
Funny thing it's "textbook". Like OK, where are the others? Confused

This made the show for me...besides seeing most of you guys there.

Best Wishes,

Ha Ha droll fellows Big Grin Razz, yes there are a few I haven't yet found. Smile Smile
Serge, I remember well the meal the night before for many reasons which we obviously cannot go into here, not in any great depth anyway, a very funny and enjoyable time.
I do remember the conversation and was as taken aback as you as to the coincidence, it was freaky to say the least. A feast for mine eyes though when you showed it to me.

I'm sure there are others out there but not many, perhaps they are in collections as this piece was, perhaps there tucked away in drawers in Germany, I've had a few hirschfngers from family members over the last 2 years, when the next one will turn up with this mark, who knows, I just hope I'm around when it does.

Cheers

Serge,

I enjoyed seeing this piece, too. I remember the condition was as pristine plus the rarity of the mark = first class! A fabulous addition to your PS collection.

See, good clean living pays off again! Wink Big Grin

Best regards!

Gary, You've had some great luck pulling rarities out of the woodwork of late. It won't surprise me if you pull out a Seilheimer "dog" in the near future.
I do wish you continued hunters luck! Wink

Bill, Thank You.
My "Forestry Dog" gets along just great with his new pal the "Hunting Dog".

Don't know what the Eickhorn is doing in the picture but I guess it didn't want to get pushed around by the two "dogs" on it's right. Big Grin

I have only seen a couple of the PS pieces over the years. Some companies just didn't make too many of certain pieces. They were probably priced out of the market by the big producers and had to stick to models where there was more profit.
