Thought I would post a few pictures of my latest find. This pattern Eickhorn hirschf�nger is best known from the Imperial period, this one though is from the later 3rd reich period, listed as pattern 1080. Marked with the early double oval mark of the Eickhorn factory more commonly seen on the Army daggers. The scabbard has a spring and the grip the deluxe acorns both are also traits of this later period. I have to presume that this is one of the last of this pattern ever made as as far as I know it was a discontinued pattern though I'm sure if somebody really wanted it it could have been made. The Ivory grip plates have some of the best graining and colouring I have ever seen, the fittings have almost 100% of the gilt, the leather has just a couple carrying knocks that is hardly noticable. The blade would rate as Nr mint just a couple area's where the grey background has been rubbed by the springs, it actually looks mint but on close inspection there is just some slight wear. I would have to presume that it was worn for a very short time and then put away somewhere. Length is a whopping 22".

Gary, A long and short version of the same pattern. The short blade has the knights head with W.K.& C. and the other pieces has in script �L. Habiekon� one side and �in DurmsFusz� ( I think that�s what is etched) on the other side.

There are quite a few Imperial types around as shown by Ralph but not seen too often anymore. The thing about Gary's is that it has Third Reich characteristics and the 33 Eickhorn TM. It is the only one I have seen and its very very nice. It was mine at one time. Bought it at one of the MAX shows about 15 years ago. It walked into a Military Shop and I was the first collector to own it. Gary is the third collector to own it. Its nice to know where things come from.

All three are great examples, the lions heads all have that unique, round frog-face look, almost a caricature. I'd say this lion motif is seen only on this Hessian Hirschf�nger and nowhere else, at least to my knowledge..? It's also neat to see that the base-area of each head is somewhat different too.

Ralph, if you can get a better shot of the markings on the longer piece, maybe we can figure out the distributor/maker? The clamshell on that unit has a much more pronounced relief to the decoration than the Eickhorn and the WKC.

Some of these earlier Weimar/imperial pieces are somewhat oversized in both length and weight when compared to the long '33-45 period DJ Hirschf�nger, which is a fairly good-sized dagger. If any of you gets a chance to heft one of these long-patterns at a show, check it out, I guarantee you'll be impressed, they're beauties!

Great hummingbird toward the tip. Completely beautiful pieces, top shelf stuff all the way. No doubt these pieces were lovingly cared for many moons ago. It's good they've found homes such as yours.

That little boidy is a Wood**** or Waldschnepfe.

Don't think I've ever seen a Kolibri/Hummer pictured in a hunting/forestry design pattern, mostly game animals and such.

A great pair Ralph, I'd like to see some close up's of the blade etches if you can, also lets see the distributor mark if thats what it is, perhaps we can help decipher it.

This is one of those oversize, 'grosser' patterns next to a standard DJ example.
