Hey all,

I've seen quite a few different types of eagles on Police Bayonets. I realize there were 'other' add on eagle types applied post-war to make them more 'sellable'. I also know the aluminum eagle pictured on the far left of this picture collage is the accepted eagle on these bayonets. What about the other eagle types and are these acceptable? Also, what eagle types are acceptable on Third Reich police bayonets? Any additional info including pictures would be great.

Cheers,
John

This one is on a 3R produced Höller, looks similar to your second pictured eagle.

This is a solid variety on a late war produced Clemen & Jung that came with a steel scabbard with polizei type fittings.

The 3 on the right are USUALLY seen on the private purchase smaller versions and sometimes on the later aluminum hilt types. Sometimes the one on the left is seen in solid nickel silver but not often. Many of these are fake but some are real. I used to think they all were fake but now know that they are not. There also is the late pot metal type that is not cut out that almost always is only found on the late private purchase types. I have over 30 variations of these bayonets.

it is a fine collection... but for a example on the left side down: A german service bayonet, especialy with a canvasfrog of the DAK, official never had a knot! i still exist some phictures that show soldiers with knots on servicebayonets. but this was absolutly incoreced and vorbidden since 1935.

Very interested to see Billy G's Clemen & Jung with the unpierced eagle. I have also owned a C&J for a long time with one,but it is a regular police bayo that was shortened from the pre "reich" era length as per usual. I had all but given in and eccepted that it had been applied post war. I'm not so sure now...what do you guys think??? Kevin.

Here is a Paul Weyersberg for comparison. This is an early piece with the "Paweco" trademark.

Heers,

Sorry for taking so long to commment on your piece. At first glance, your grip emblem looks like a Polizei sword grip emblem. Houston would know for sure but that's what it looks like to me.

Denny,

Love that Paweco, glad you showed it & glad you got it Smile

Correct-Police Officer sword emblem. Not regulation for a police bayonet.

So is it generally accepted that eagles which are not pierced/cut out are most likely replacements?

Does anyone have a C & J with a pierced eagle, or a C & J catalogue with a picture? The sword style eagle might just be peculiar to C & J.

I don't own a Water Protection Police dagger with an eagle, and am certainly no expert, but take into consideration the variety of police eagles - pierced, unpierced, silver and gold found on that dagger.

Dan,

Here's a Clemen & Jung cut down variety with pierced eagle from Brian Maederer's site, I don't remember how long ago it was listed. Were you referring to late war era C&J pieces only?

Billy G - No specific time period, just a thought that I don't see why a "sword eagle" could not be found on a police bayonet. You find really well defined eagles and some that are truly ugly and almost childish looking. Perhaps C & J occasionally ran out of the normal eagles. I don't see a problem. Why did Lauterjung normally, but not always, use two strands of twisted wire on their Marine daggers?

The grips, rivets, and eagle/placement on your bayonet and the one owned by Heer68 both look perfectly acceptable to me. But as I said, I am no expert.

It would be nice if someone had any period pics with police bayo close ups they could post. I have always avoided purchasing these bayos in which the eagle emblem is not pierced/cut out. I have seen some on the major dealers sites with the solid eagle types which claim to have been direct vet purchases. More proof is needed to confirm or disconfirm.

There are plenty of original solid grip police bayonet grip eagles but they are almost always found on the private purchase later aluminum hilt types. They can be found both in aluminum and pot metal. They are not sword eagles.
