Great piece found at the Atlanta (Marietta) Military Show this weekend. Short deluxe Police Dress Presentation Bayonet, Short unmarked blade and Third Reich Prussian Eagle. Overall excellent condition.

It looks like a very nice looking Prusssian Polizei Ehrenseitengewehr (Honor Bayonet). Could you show us some pix of the reverse?

Oak leafs/acorns on the guard etc.,, it is very deep.. Are they engraved or cast?

These honor bayonet hilts were produced by 2 firms, Weyersberg and Eickhorn. Although I have seen plain bladed examples before, this one has 3 features I’ve never seen on an Ehrenseitengewehr before, a 20cm blade, a KS98 steel scabbard and a Feldjager emblem. Curious piece indeed.

In looking at some extensive files I have at home, I can say now that I’ve definitely seen examples with KS98 type steel scabbards. But that said, the majority of these had a pair of oakleaf clusters on the obverse grip plate or occasionally a Weimar star emblem.

Personally i think the horn grips are too light for 80 years mainly the cut on backside, possible they were replaced in time, so then is the emblem not so problematic. Or it was photografed on wrong light. Day light wout sun, and no flashlight would be the best, but the cut on horn is too white for long time piece. But this is only my personally opinion based on that photos.

I agree with Billy and Andy concerning the stag grips. Solingen makers typically utilized soft metal rivets so the grips would not crack or chip over time. I can see chipping on the back of the stag horn on the top rivet and the bottom rivet appears to have been banged on. Grips and rivets are always a red flag to me if they are poorly installed. While the bayonet gives a good overall appearance at the outset the devil is in the details.

I will also point out that this bayonet shown does not match the Honor Bayonet shown by Eickhorn in their catalog as their Nr. 1681.

ORPO, I have two 1681s by Eickhorn, one with plain blade and bakelite grips, one with stag grips and etched blade. Neither lok like the one being discussed.

Yes, your two bayonets are the one described in the Eickhorn catalog. Notice the press button in the pommel and the wide fuller on the blade unlike the first one shown.

These Honor bayonets by( Eickhorn )are much more difficult to find than the Paul Weyersberg honor models

I remember Jeff Slaker (Colorado) found one somewhere out west. It had some touches of corrosion on the obverse etch but was still very pleasing. Had a shot at it but didn’t appreciate their rarity and beauty then, my loss for sure.

I know I don’t spend much time here as I did in past, OP I really enjoyed the honor bayonet you found. Wonderful piece to add to a collection, just keep I’m mind the 3R stuff brings more interest and money and mine is not but still has merit of time long ago

I’ve changed phones, lost passwords, and sometimes life gets a little completed. Billy G and I have known one another quite some time and has shared information as well as a couple things from his collection he sent my way and was able to upgrade for his collection,, oh and maybe a recipe or two for dinner . John Z has put a outstanding collection together over the years and George (0rpo) and many others here know more than I have time to learn when I may have more than one hobby.

Don’t what to hijack your post, but thought you you may be interested seeing a older honor bayonet from the first war it was m belief was a Divisional gift for bravery in combat, It’s triple etched. Older pictures I had if interested. I have a older post here of more info on it if you would like look.
